Such good advise here!

Workout Wednesday: Do your horse a favor and gradually build fitness for hills. Don't just charge zealously up steep hills hoping to acquire some "fitness." Fitness is a progressive thing and hill work needs to be dosed sensibly. A good-- and simple-- workout to start with this spring:
1.) Perform Extended Walk UP moderate slope for 45 seconds; turn around
2.) Perform Collected Walk DOWN the slope for 30 seconds
3.) Repeat the sequence above without pausing for a total of 10 reps.
**be sure to change horse's frame and stride for the extended and collected walks of this routine

It's an honor to be able to share The Masterson Method of Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork with the equine community locally.

I'l be instructing the Beyond Horse Massage Weekend Seminar in Visalia, CA. May 6-7! And there's one space left!

I know that's a mouthful of a title but this style of equine bodywork is learnable, effective & what you take away in this course will change the way your horse feels inside & out (release tension)! They may even like you more (relationship)! Wink!

When you can help your horse, mule or donkey feel more comfortable in their own skin, boost your connection (communication) with them & find more joy in the things you do together (performance), well... you'll wonder why you didn't find this sooner!

I often think about the anatomical differences between horses & donkeys.

How are these differences passed on to a mule?

The findings shared in this article are fascinating to me.

Maybe a mule dissection is somewhere in my near future.

He makes my heart happy😊
All donkeys are such individuals and it’s always such an interesting journey to me to get to know their personalities♥️

Jasper has a huge personality and loads of his own opinions! 😆
He had a birthday last month.. he’s 8 years old now!
He’s the only donkey I have that I actually know his real bday! I got him when he was a 4 yr old intact, biting jack🤦‍♀️ he’s come such a long way!

And he’s mellowed out some this last year some .. he’s definitely gained muscle and filled out over the years from all the activities we do.

I love how much he loves to go off trail riding and weave through the trees!! That is so fun!

love how much he loves to jump that darn ditch at my sons house although it’s annoying too cause he wants to do it over and over 🤣

Oh my goodness and his crazy ‘attitude’ walk he starts up if he’s bored on a hike 🤣🤣
Never a dull moment with this guy!

And I love after his untacked he will just stand there totally at liberty waiting for his hooves to get done and his bodywork/EO treatment.. yes yes a bit spoiled! 😆🤷‍♀️

He’s my favorite donkey to try out new tack and gear on.. cause if he isn’t comfy he won’t move! That helps me out so much!

A lot of people get so mad if they tack up or put gear on and the donkey won’t move.. i know cause I get the emails!

I look at it as a learning opportunity.. what is going on.. why would my donkey not move in this…
Same thing if my donkey rides just fine with me but someone else mounts up and he won’t move.. why? Is that person to heavy? An Unbalanced rider? Sitting in a way that’s uncomfortable to the donkey?
Don’t just force the donkey with a whip or other punishment method … ask why?? 🤷‍♀️

Our donkeys are so smart and they know more about what’s comfortable to them then we do.. if we just take the time to listen and not just label the donkey as being stubborn. 🙄

If I labeled Jasper as being stubborn and never stopped to ask why he was refusing something .. I wouldn’t have the amazing donkey he is today🥰
And I would have missed out on all this donkey has taught me..
