4 John Lennon Songs That Fans Hate but I Happen To Love

Alright, not every John Lennon fan hates the following songs. However, these deep cuts rarely get as much love as some of Lennon’s more famous tunes with The Beatles, as well as his more well-known solo tracks. And some fans have condemned the following songs as some of Lennon’s worst releases. Though, I’m a fan of avant-garde music and extremely weird pieces of music history, so maybe I’m biased in thinking the following songs are underrated. Let’s take a look and get a little weird, shall we?

ā€œI Don’t Wanna Face Itā€

Milk And Honey is a point of contention among John Lennon fans. The album is considered one of Lennon’s least impressive works by some, but I have to disagree with that. The album is full of fascinating ideas. And while many of those ideas aren’t totally fleshed out, that makes them even more charming.

ā€œI Don’t Wanna Face Itā€ is a jarring divergence from the more sincere songs on the album. Lennon’s childlike vocals are quite shrill and unconventional. However, considering he’s bemoaning the hard times that come with a relationship, it’s almost fitting. In a way, Lennon is kind of making fun of himself.

The Beatles album Ringo Starr is always knocked out by: ā€œThe songs blew me awayā€

Some of the best artists in the world don’t always need to be the most versatile musicians anyone has ever heard. It usually comes down to band chemistry when making a great group, and while bands like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd had completely different skill sets, it always worked in the context of whatever song they happened to be working on.

But in terms of every other rock band in the world, the kind of electricity that The Beatles had in their prime wasn’t lost on Ringo Starr when he first started playing with his friends.

The whole point of getting Starr in the group was because he managed to have the right feel for the songs, and even before he joined the group, the drummer would always hang back and listen to the band when he was offstage. It’s one thing to be prepared for when the band covered some obscure American songs, but once they started to make the studio their home, Starr had a completely different job cut out for him. He needed to start thinking like a musician, and that meant playing to the song.

And while many people single out albums like Rubber Soul as the moment where they started to get weird, Starr was already well ahead of everyone else in the percussion department. He had thrown some bongos onto a handful of their ballads on A Hard Day’s Night, and by the time they began working on Beatles for Sale, Starr managed to get a beat out of everything from a timpani to his own knees when tracking the song ā€˜Words of Love’.

The Beatles:The Beatles song ā€˜Here Comes the Sun’ is hiding a glaring mistake: ā€œKind of infant soundsā€

It is easy to assume that tough times rarely happen in the idyllic imagery of being a rock star. Add to this being the biggest band in the world and largely loved by all, and you surely have a recipe for an easy life? Not so true. The Beatles are a testament to this, as the group began to fracture desperately as their fame reached a boiling point. The last few months of The Beatles took their toll on George Harrison, especially.

In the wake of the Get Back project, Harrison abruptly left the group after his bandmates failed to take his songs seriously, eventually saving a handful for the brilliant solo album All Things Must Pass. Harrison turned in one of his finest compositions after playing hooky as the band reconvened to make one final musical statement.

Though John Lennon and Paul McCartney worked closely together as songwriters, there was rivalry between them as they both tried to out-do each other. Paul and John wrote the vast majority of The Beatles' songs and in the early days they would compose their work together at Paul's childhood home on Forthlin Road in Allerton.

However, as the 1960s went on and artistic differences emerged, John and Paul tended to write independently, composing songs before presenting them to each other for tweaks. Despite this, every song they wrote while members of The Beatles had the joint credit of Lennon-McCartney - the result of a pact made before they rose to fame.
