ALL THE ACCOLADES: Ryan Rifer wasn't worried about setting a new single-game scoring record for the Summerland Bobcats. He was worried about the Bobcats getting the W in the holiday tournament. He also tied his rebound record, which he originally set on Dec. 5.

Doubles come naturally to Ryan Rifer, even his initials repeat. The Summerland senior made the symmetry official Dec. 30 at the Summerland Holiday Tournament, pouring in 36 points while hauling down 14 rebounds to set a school record in the single-game scoring category and tying the rebound record,....

COMMUNITY SUPPORT: collection jars will be set up at local businesses for donations for the Mokhalad family. On Friday, Michael and his son Tym were killed in an accident south of Ewing. Three other children survived.
The donations will be hand delivered to Rose and her children. The Mokhalads owned a bakery in the Cities.
Clearwater Chamber of Commerce will match donations, up to $2,500.

A Minnesota man and a five-year-old child died in a car accident, last evening, south of Ewing.

Thank you to all emergency responders who assisted in the subsequent search.

An accident on 508 Avenue, approximately two and one-half miles south of Ewing, on Friday, Jan. 2, has resulted in two fatalities. The Summerland Advocate-Messenger is a weekly news organization located in Clearwater, Nebraska and serves the communities of Clearwater, Ewing, Orchard, Page and Royal.

The Advocate-Messenger is owned and published by ColdType Publishing, LLC, located at 522 Main Street, in a historic brick bank building, situated near the center of Main Street. Stop by for a cup of coffee or iced tea and get to know us.

Meet publisher LuAnn Schindler, who possesses more than 30 years of experience teaching and working in journalism. An award-winning journalist and editor, I have received honors from the Nebraska Press Association, Nebraska Press Women and National Federation of Press Women. I am joined in the venture with husband, Scott, who works on his family’s farm, raising cattle and crops, feeding the world.

Together, we believe in the importance of community, our community - the Summerland community - and know the importance of sharing the joys and concerns of all who reside here. The heartbeat of this publication is community, and together, we will thrive and share responsible, trustworthy stories from rural America.
