Thanks to our special guest, Kyle Welch, for visiting our DMI 101 Entertainment Industry Survey class today. Kyle is the Production Manager for Lonestar and was able to Zoom in from the tour bus as his crew was setting up for tonight’s gig in Kentucky. Kyle has been with Lonestar since 2019 and was on the 1st ballot this year for FOH/Production Manager of the year for a CMA Award.

Lonestar has charted more than 20 singles on the Hot Country Songs chart, including nine that reached number one: "No News", "Come Cryin' to Me", "Amazed", "Smile", "What About Now", "Tell Her", "I'm Already There", "My Front Porch Looking In", and "Mr. Mom". "Amazed" also charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first country song to do so since "Islands in the Stream" in 1983.

The DMI makes it 4 in a row!

For the fourth consecutive year, Delta State University’s Entertainment Industry Studies program has been named among Billboard Magazine’s Top Music Business Schools for 2025. The announcement appears in the October 25th issue of the magazine.

“Being recognized by Billboard for the fourth year in a row underscores the incredible dedication of our faculty, students, and staff.”

Way back in 2007 when Herbie Hancock visited the DMI. He was on the "Blues and Jazz" tour with Thelonious Monk Jr. and had also visited Dockery Farm. Delta State University College of Business and Aviation

DMI students had a private audience with the legendary Carla Thomas, the Queen of Memphis Soul, at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. Ms. Thomas shared her experiences in the music business and talked about working with other legendary performers like Otis Redding, Steve Cropper, and her father Rufus Thomas.

After leaving Stax, the students met with Grammy winning producer Boo Mitchell at Royal Studios to learn about the history of Willie Mitchell and the Hi Rhythm Section. Oh, and Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars was recorded at Royal too!
