MARION COUNTY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE SECURES GUILTY PLEA IN SEXUAL ASSAULT AND INTIMIDATION OF A CHILD
Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan today announced another conviction in a case that highlights his passion to prosecute crimes against children. Dustin Stamp, age 36 and of Greenwood Street in the City of Marion, in a disturbing breach of trust, pleaded guilty for his actions on April 16, 2023, involving the r**e and intimidation of a 12-year-old victim.
The incident, which occurred in the defendant’s home under the guise of needing a babysitter for his children, quickly escalated into a criminal act where Stamp engaged in r**e against the minor. Further exacerbating his crime, Stamp used threats of harm against the victim and her family to coerce her compliance and silence.
This case was thoroughly investigated by the Marion, Ohio Police Department, with then officer, now Lt. Dana Jagger conducting a key interview that contributed to Stamp’s confession and subsequent guilty plea. Prosecutor Grogan commended the diligent work of the Marion Police Department under the leadership of Chief Jay McDonald, Lt. Jagger, and Det. Michael Diem, for their role in bringing Stamp to justice.
Stamp now faces a mandatory sentence ranging from 10 years to life in prison, reflecting the severity with which the justice system regards s*x crimes against children. He will also have to register as a s*x offender for the rest of his life.
“Our office is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the children of Marion County,” Prosecutor Grogan said. “This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences awaiting those who seek to harm and intimidate the most vulnerable among us.”
Grogan commended Assistant Prosecutor Charles Hall and Assistant Prosecutor Allison Kesler, who worked on the prosecution. “Our entire team remains dedicated to working alongside law enforcement to prosecute those who commit crimes against children to the fullest extent of the law,” Grogan said. “This conviction is just the latest proof of our strong resolve to protect our children and pursue justice for all victims of crime,” Grogan concluded. “Hear me loud and clear – I will not tolerate such acts of violence and intimidation.”
