Every Sunday, from 2 to 4pm, on WRUW-FM 91.1 Cleveland (or online at wruw.org) tune in for the best in 1920s and 30s jazz and popular music (as well as occasional jazz from other eras in predominantly traditional styles) during the first hour, and rock from 1960s to the present, and a healthy dash of assorted cool stuff from other genres and eras during the second hour.

I know I said last week that I would do the train show this week, but I just remembered I haven’t done my annual joint birthday show for Benny Goodman & Frank Trumbauer yet, so the train songs will be featured NEXT Sunday instead. In the meantime, here’s a photo of BG switching musical roles with a certain famous singer…Benny actually has sung on records before, but I’m willing to bet Frank Sinatra has never played clarinet anywhere.

In the first hour, we’ve got Dave Brubeck’s cantata for the slain students of Kent State, and in the second hour we’ve got a ticket giveaway for the sold-out MJ Lenderman show on May 13, followed by a concert recap extravaganza for shows by the Cleaners From Venus/Martin Newell in London, Baby Lemomade/Love with Johnny Echols at the Beachland Tavern, and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds in Columbus! Hello from Edinburgh! Today’s show will obviously not be live, but it was taped and submitted from the UK this morning. One of my Telethon donors, who is also currently in the UK, will be doing a guest set in the second hour. As for me, it’s almost 7pm now, so I’m going to look for a pub and try to decide whether I want to try haggis or not.
