Tune in every Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4pm on WRUW-FM, 91.1 Cleveland.

Every Sunday, from 2 to 4pm, on WRUW-FM 91.1 Cleveland (or online at wruw.org) tune in for the best in 1920s and 30s jazz and popular music (as well as occasional jazz from other eras in predominantly traditional styles) during the first hour, and rock from 1960s to the present, and a healthy dash of assorted cool stuff from other genres and eras during the second hour.

I have a song to sing, O! Hope you guys don’t mind a little Gilbert & Sullivan interlude to start the first hour. Don’t worry, we’ll still have time for a Louis Armstrong birthday salute (part 2), and mini birthday tributes to Scott McCaughey and Bill Berry in the rock hour, plus more new music, etc etc.

Lucy Dacus ticket giveaway at 3pm! Another big ol’ week of concert recaps, tune in.

Back from Solid Sound! America 250! Louis Armstrong birthday! Busy show today!

06/28/2026

At Solid Sound this weekend, but the show I submitted today was taped before the event, so if you want to hear what I really think about the festival and the bands who performed at it, you’ll have to tune in again next Sunday! (Spoiler alert, good news for fans of bands from Leeds!)

The interview bonanza continues here on Sweet & Lowdown! Last week’s interview with Sally Timms, ahead of last week’s Mekons gig, is still up on the streaming archive on WRUW’s website for one more week (skip ahead an hour in), and this afternoon at 3pm we’ve got an interview with Tommy Stinson, ahead of his upcoming show at the Treelawn on June 18!

05/31/2026

Busy day today on the ol’ radio—the return of the annual birthday salutes to Benny Goodman and Frank Trumbauer in the jazz hour, and at 3pm, a half hour interview with Sally Timms from mekons to start the rock hour, in advance of the band’s upcoming show at the Music Box Supper Club. Tune in!

Thank you to everyone who donated to last week’s Telethon! Unfortunately we fell significantly farther short of our goal here on S&L than in recent years, but at least WRUW as a whole did well. If you’d still like to donate, today is the last day you are able to get this year’s shirts as premiums, so if you wanted want and forgot to donate before, don’t pass up this chance! Link in comments…

It’s telethon time this week, and telethon time today here on Sweet & Lowdown from 2-4pm! Don’t miss your one opportunity to give back to WRUW, and maybe pick up some cool gear while you’re at it!

Apologies for the relative lack of posting around here lately, but I need to break the silence for an important announcement. In case you haven't already heard, it's telethon! Yes! This week only, it's WRUW's annual fundraiser, and Sweet & Lowdown has already raised over $400 despite me not even mentioning it yet. (Oops!) The past year has been a tumultuous one in radio, but WRUW-FM is still here for you, just as we have been for the last half-century or so. With your support, we hope to be around for even longer... I'll drop the donation link in the comments, so take a look.
