No White County school students were injured in a minor school bus accident this afternoon.
White County School Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Stribling released the following statement:
There was a minor school bus accident at the intersection of Hwy 115 and Old Clarkesville Road during the p.m. route September 8.
The accident involved a White County School bus and one other vehicle. The accident was minor in nature and there were no injuries. Twenty-two students from Jack P Nix Elementary School, two student teachers, and the bus driver were aboard the bus.
The City of Cleveland Police Department secured the scene while the Georgia State Patrol worked the accident.
Stribling, Chief of School Safety and Operations Matt Stowers, Director of Transportation Sharon Hipps, Jack P. Nix principal Laura Hall, and assistant principalJesse Scroggs responded to the scene on behalf of the school system. The students were transferred to another bus and transported home after being released by the GSP.
"I would like to extend a special thank you to our public safety partners who responded with professionalism, care and compassion to the bus incident," Stribling said. "I am also very appreciative of the parent who came to the scene with bottled water for all the students. Her act of kindness was just a reminder that we live in a fantastic community."
