10 years ago today I uploaded the first episode of Dollar Country to mixcloud.
265 Episodes, 18 NTS Episodes, 8 Mixtapes, and 5778 Played Songs later things look very different.
I had no clue 10 years ago that the few boxes of records I had would end up seeding a non-profit music archive. It wasn't even something I ruled out as impossible because it was so far out of my scope that the idea never even occurred to me.
I was talking to my board recently who helps with the non profit and I mentioned that I never felt special running Dollar Country because anyone could do it, and my friend Max said that's exactly what makes me the man for the job. I suppose he's right, but inside it feels like this is just the path I was walking and I kept putting one foot in front of the other.
Now here we are. DC wouldn't be here without the support of my patrons and the folks who have sent donations or all the people who have told someone else to check out the show or all the folks who have paid me to travel and do events.
You can always join the patreon, it really helps to know there's steady income. (patreon.com/dollarcountry). You can also tell a friend about the show so word keeps spreading. I don't spend money on advertising because I don't think anyone should be allowed to pay money just to have their thing put in front of your face.
There are thousands of records left to play and organize and digitize and hundreds of acetates. There is much work to be done, and I'll keep doing it for as long as I'm able to, both physically and financially.
