Statement from Ohio Equestrian Directory and Enso Media Group
The recent reports surrounding Pure Gold Stables in Salem, Ohio, where skeletal remains of four horses were found on the property, have shaken and saddened our equestrian community. We are heartbroken and outraged that such neglect and suffering could occur especially at a well-known facility. It is a painful reminder that abuse and starvation can be hidden behind even the most picturesque settings, even in cases such as this where innocent equestrians were allegedly kept in the dark about the horrible treatment these horses were faced with.
As lifelong advocates for Ohio’s horse industry, we cannot and will not stay silent. Every horse deserves humane care, nourishment, and dignity. Cases like this underscore the importance of vigilance, compassion, and accountability from all who love and work with these animals.
If you ever suspect neglect or abuse, speak up immediately:
🐴 Call your Local Humane Society or County Sheriff’s Office: cruelty and neglect cases are often investigated at the county level where the animals are located. You can also reach the ASPCA of Ohio at [email protected] | (740) 420-2984
🌎 Nationwide Resources: Report concerns to the Humane Society of the United States or ASPCA for your state; each state has their own hotline.
Let this tragedy strengthen our resolve to do better, as individuals, as a community, and as an industry. As the publisher of Ohio Equestrian Directory, Enso Media Group stands firmly with those demanding justice for these horses and calling for stronger legislation, fearless reporting, and greater community advocacy to ensure this never happens again.Together, we can — and must — be the voice for those who cannot speak.
