El Palacio de Cleopatra sumergido frente a la costa de Alejandría (Egipto) fue descubierto a finales de los años 90 por un equipo de arqueólogos submarinos dirigido por el arqueólogo marino francés Franck Goddio. Este yacimiento arqueológico subacuático se remonta al periodo ptolemaico del antiguo Egipto, hace aproximadamente 2.000 años, durante el reinado de Cleopatra VII, que gobernó del 51 a. C. al 30 a. C.
El descubrimiento del Palacio de Cleopatra bajo el agua fue un hallazgo significativo que arrojó luz sobre la grandeza y sofisticación del arte y la arquitectura helenísticos durante la época de Cleopatra. Las ruinas incluyen estatuas bien conservadas, columnas, monedas, joyas, cerámica y otros artefactos que proporcionan valiosos conocimientos sobre la historia, la cultura y la vida cotidiana del antiguo Egipto durante el periodo ptolemaico.
Diversas teorías sugieren que factores naturales como terremotos, hundimientos, subidas del nivel del mar o incluso un tsunami podrían haber contribuido al sumergimiento del palacio de Cleopatra y otras partes de la antigua Alejandría. Gold Pendant of Amenhotep III found in the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), Valley of the Kings, West Thebes.
In this solid gold pendant, king Amenhotep III is portrayed in a squatting position, wearing the Blue Khepresh Crown and carrying the crook and the flail. He wears a real gold necklace with glass beads. The statuette was suspended by a looped gold chain to be used as a pendant.
