WTF is happening in Cleveland?
All year, we heard the same narrative when it comes to Donovan Mitchell’s future with the Cavs.
The trade rumors were there since they acquired Mitchell, and they never stopped. All we heard were reports like…
“I don't think there's any chance [Spida] signs an extension there ever. And if it was up to me, I would trade him today.”
To be fair, this is Tim Bontemps who also compared Evan Mobley to Derrick Favors. So maybe he just doesn’t like Cleveland.
But the truth is Bontemps is far from alone with this thinking. Even after an admirable playoff run, the media mess got messier.
Within an hour of their season ending, sources from The Athletic and Cleveland.com dropped some TEA about the Cavs.
🔸Some staff was frustrated with Jarrett Allen
🔸Rich Paul might demand a Garland trade
🔸Mobley’s development was not prioritized
🔸The coach and GM were not seeing eye-to-eye at times
And then TWO Donovan Mitchell reports came out…
The first said there was a growing consensus around the league that Mitchell WILL extend with the Cavs.
The other said Spida “grew frustrated with some teammates’ lack of maturity, focus, playoff-level readiness and a willingness to listen.”
And that’s when Spida got tired of it. Less than 24 hours later, Donovan Mitchell got on a call with Woj to drop a new bomb for everyone to see.
“I’m happy in Cleveland.”
Words we have only heard from one other superstar in NBA history. Just some kid from Akron.
You probably never heard of him…🤷🏽♂️
