Everybody wants a dense, intimidating back… but nobody wants to do the movements that actually build one.
Prison T-bar rows have survived every trend in bodybuilding for a reason. Before all the fancy plate-loaded machines and chrome equipment, there was a barbell shoved into a corner, some weight on the end, and hard work. Arnold used them. Ronnie used them. Branch Warren and Johnnie Jackson built brutal backs with them. Generation after generation, this movement has earned its place.
Here’s how I approach it ..
Feet about shoulder-width apart.
Hips back, chest up, back locked in.
Grab a close handle with or without an attachment. I prefer no attachment for building crushing grips but you want to let your arms fully extend at the bottom.
Drive your elbows back toward your hips and squeeze hard at the top.
Lower the weight under complete control and own every inch of the negative.
Keep it strict. A little body English is one thing, but if you’re standing upright and throwing the weight around, you’ve missed the point.
As you see it’s not a glamours movement but if your goal is to build a back that looks like armor under a t, then this deserves a PERMANENT spot in ur arsenal.
I’ll fore warn you… the 1st Time you truly attack this movement, don’t be surprised if your lats stay lit up for days…
Everybody wants the look but very few are willing to row for it …
If this brought value to your training, share it with another lifter who appreciates old-school grit.
