Formerly known as Porta Flaminia, Piazza del Popolo is one of the most popular squares in the city of Rome,
with three legendary churches bordering the square with an Egyptian massive obelisk in the middle.
It is the centre of tourism in the city.
The square has been a huge part of Roman history as it served as the main gateway to the city of Rome,
where the foreigners had arrived.
Piazza del Popolo was the first look of the city that any foreigner got of Rome,
and hence it had the quality of always being crowded and bustling.

Spanish Steps. Staircase in Rome's Piazza di Spagna that climbs the steep slope between the plaza
and the church of Trinita dei Monti above. It consists of 135 steps and was built between 1723
and 1725. The steps have long been a gathering place for the wealthy, the beautiful and the
bohemian. In the 18th and 19th centuries they gravitated to the steps.
The romance and beauty of the Spanish steps have inspired numerous artists and filmmakers.
Perhaps its best known appearance was in the 1953 movie Roman Holiday.

Arch of Constantine is a massive arch located between the two most important attractions of Rome.
The Colosseum and the Palatine Hill, considered to be the largest Roman arch ever built.
It is dedicated to Constantine, a great Roman emperor.
The location of this monument makes it one of the most visited and photographed in the city.

The capital line hill is the most important and enchanting of the seven hills on which Rome was founded.
It symbolized the epicenter of the Roman Empire and housed the most important temples in the city.
The 16th century project of the current square is the work of Michelangelo.

Ostia Antica is now an archaeological site, which once served as the harbour city of Rome.
The town which was once buried for ten centuries is now located 25km southwest of Rome.
It was one of the most important cities in ancient Rome since it acted as a harbour point for Rome,
as the city did not have any of its own.
However, after the fall of the empire, people eventually started leaving the city
and it has remained abandoned for centuries.
Many features of the centuries-old city still remains for the public to see now.
These designs give us insight of how the people lived during those times.

The Villa Borghese Gardens is a park located in the Piazzale del Museo Borghese in Rome.
The Borghese Gardens is peppered with Roman sculptures, Renaissance art, fountains and several museums.
It was bought by the state from the Borghese family in 1901 and became a public park in 1903.

Piazza Venezia, the square takes its name from the Palazzo Venezia,
one of Rome's most significant historical monuments.
The piazza is home to several other historic buildings
and offers delightful backgrounds for photos.
The Palazzo Venezia hosts a collection of Roman art,
medieval weapons and ancient artefacts.
St. Mark's Basilica also stands on the square.

The altar of the fatherland is a large votive altar dedicated to the Italian
nation located in the heart of the Vittoriano. In fact, the altar stands on
the first terrace and is sometimes identified with the entire monument
designed by Giuseppe Saccone. It was decorated by the Lombard sculptor
Angelo Zanelli. Having won the competition many years after it was
launched in 1908, Zanelli only finished the work into 1925.
