🕊️Some losses hit differently, and the passing of Mr. West is one of them.

Through his infectious smile, iconic dance moves, undeniable swag, and unapologetically authentic journey as an adult with autism, he brought joy to millions. He reminded us that being yourself is more than enough and that happiness is meant to be shared.

I also can't help but admire the chosen family who loved, supported, and celebrated him every step of the way. Their bond was a beautiful reminder of what community, inclusion, and unconditional love truly look like.

While my heart aches knowing he's gone, I'm grateful for the laughter, light, and inspiration he gave so freely. Rest easy, Mr. West. Your legacy will live on in every smile, every dance, and every life you touched.

A few days ago, I saw a networking event for female marketers featuring social media leaders from the Detroit Tigers, General Motors, 5-Hour Energy, and Domino's Pizza. I was genuinely excited… until I saw the $80 ticket price.

Next month marks one full year of unemployment for me — no severance, no notice, just navigating an incredibly difficult job market. According to Michigan’s Center for Data and Analytics, Michigan’s unemployment rate remained at 5.0% as of April 2026, above the national average. Underemployment and career instability are very real right now.

I reached out to the organizer with a simple suggestion: why not have a corporate sponsor cover a number of tickets for unemployed professionals? Thankfully, they were receptive and said it’s something the committee will discuss for future events.

Because honestly… if networking events are meant to attract new talent, reconnect peers, and create opportunity, they also need to be accessible to the very people trying hardest to get back into the room.
