Sampson Regional Medical Center Gives Back to Local Families During Nurses Week and Hospital Week

During Nurses Week 2026, Sampson Regional Medical Center is celebrating the dedication and compassion of nurses while also giving back to the community through a donation drive supporting the upcoming Sampson County Community Baby Shower.

Donations are currently being collected for the Community Baby Shower hosted by Grace Helping Others. The Community Baby Shower is scheduled for July 11th at Twisted Vines Vineyard in Clinton. The initiative will help provide essential baby items, education, and resources to expecting and new families throughout Sampson County. Requested donation items include:
-Diapers
-Wipes
-Baby shampoo and lotion
-Bottles and pacifiers
-Baby blankets
-Infant clothing
-Other baby essentials

“As nurses, caring for families extends far beyond the walls of the hospital,” said Shannon Capps, Director of Obstetrics & Infusion Center. “This is a meaningful way to celebrate Nurses Week while supporting mothers, babies, and families in our community.”

Donations may be dropped off at Sampson Regional Medical Center’s main lobby through June 30 during normal business hours. The donation drive reflects SampsonRMC’s continued commitment to its mission of Growing a Healthier Community through compassion, outreach, and support for local families.

During Hospital Week, Sampson Regional Medical Center will also host a community food drive from May 11–15 to support local food banks throughout Sampson County. The hospital is accepting donations of non-perishable food items in jars and cans to help support families in need throughout the community. Donations may be dropped off in the front lobby donation cabinet or during the hospital’s Touch-A-Truck event on May 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Rising costs for essential household and infant items continue to place strain on many local families, and community members and staff are encouraged to participate and help make a meaningful difference for families across the area. Every donation supports SampsonRMC’s continued commitment to giving back to the community it serves.

Operation Round Up To Fund In June, Deadline Approaching

The application period for South River EMC’s Operation Round Up grant program will close May 22, but there is still plenty of time to apply.

Operation Round Up collects donations from participating South River EMC members through their electric bill, by rounding up to the next dollar, to improve the quality of life for your community through schools and nonprofit organizations.

For example, if the participating member’s electric bill is $189.67, it is rounded to $190 and the 33¢ is put into a fund. This fund is managed by South River EMC’s foundation, the Community Assistance Corporation, or CAC. A member can expect to donate no more than $6 a year. Funds are given primarily to organizations serving the health, safety, education or recreational needs of citizens within our service area.

Applications can be found online at www.sremc.com/operation-round. Organizations can only receive one grant per 12-month period, with a maximum amount of $5,000. Educational institutions can apply for grants up to $10,000.

Applications are available for the June funding cycle. Completed applications are due to the Cooperative headquarters by close of business May 22. Please note, you are now required to submit an electronic copy of your application to [email protected].

For complete information, visit www.sremc.com/operation-round or contact Catherine O’Dell, vice president of member services and public relations, at 910.892.8071 or [email protected].

South River EMC is a locally-owned and operated electric cooperative, which provides electric service to 48,000 homes, farms and businesses in parts of Harnett, Cumberland, Sampson, Johnston and Bladen counties.

SCC’s ADN & PN Programs Earn Reaccreditation from ACEN
Written by Megan Bednar

[Clinton, N.C.]– In celebration of National Nurses Week, Sampson Community College (SCC) is proud to announce that its Associate Degree (ADN) and Practical (PN) Nursing programs have received continuing accreditation with no recommendations from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Earning national accreditation for the first time in 2012, this reaccreditation milestone continues to reflect the strength, quality, and overall commitment of SCC’s nursing programs.

The goal of the ACEN is to support the interests of nursing education, nursing practice, and the public by providing specialized accreditation for all levels of nursing education programs. It’s recognized as an accrediting body by the U.S. Department of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, serving as one of the largest specialized accrediting agencies for nursing programs throughout the United States, its territories, and internationally.

Dr. Stephanie Springs-Hope, Department Chair of Nursing, celebrated, “Receiving continuing accreditation with no recommendations from ACEN reflects the hard work and dedication of the faculty for both our Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing programs. As the program administrator, it is an honor to work under Dr. Alexandrea Croley’s, Dean of Health Sciences, leadership and the nursing faculty at Sampson Community College.”

Following the success of the reevaluation process, coupled with the ACEN’s visit to campus in September 2025, SCC’s nursing programs will remain fully accredited until Fall 2033— beginning a new reaccreditation cycle.

Dr. Alexandra Croley, Dean of Health Sciences, celebrated, “This outcome reflects the strong culture of excellence and collaboration across our institution. I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Stephanie Springs-Hope, Program Director of Nursing, for her leadership throughout this process, as well as the nursing faculty, our colleagues across campus, and our students. This recognition reinforces the strength of our programs and our continued commitment to delivering high-quality nursing education.”

SCC is proud of the Nursing Department’s hard work and dedication put towards the reaccreditation process. The College is thankful for a healthcare team that supports institutional and student success in all ways, and looks forward to seeing all they will continue to do to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.
