Hey Clovis! Ever wonder what life was like in California's past?

Our latest article dives into the first class of the "Young Historians" program, where students are already uncovering the secrets of our state's rich history, from learning how to read maps to exploring the native plants and animals of the Channel Islands. Next week, they'll even be looking at the Pygmy Mammoths of Santa Rosa Island and building their own Pleistocene diorama!

The class still has a few spots open for young explorers. If you've got a kid who loves history, nature, or just digging into how things used to be, this is the perfect opportunity.

It's not every day a local student's idea changes film history. But that's exactly what happened when a young Clovis resident, Gina Vertson, and her classmates at Lone Star Elementary launched a petition that convinced Francis Ford Coppola to make The Outsiders.

Their efforts led to a Hollywood classic and even a local premiere attended by the film's stars.

The Wall That Heals, a powerful replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, is coming to David McDonald Park from October 9-12. This isn't just an exhibit—it's a chance to honor the neighbors, classmates, and family members who served and sacrificed.

The mobile memorial is open 24 hours a day and includes a mobile education center. It's a space for quiet reflection, not celebration, designed to help our community and veterans heal. You can also learn about the brave Hmong soldiers who fought alongside American forces in the "Secret War" in Laos, with a special ceremony planned to honor their sacrifices.

This is a chance for all of us to see the stories, not just the statistics.
