The 2026 pistachio season is just beginning, yet growers are already encountering early‑season challenges. UC researchers and California Pistachio Research Board staff have received numerous calls about bloom and nut set irregularities, which may be tied to the recent heatwave affecting western states. Pistachio growers are being asked to take a few minutes to complete a survey to help UC researchers and the industry better understand how climate variability is impacting pistachio production and prepare for future anomalies that could affect our industry. However, growers in California will continue to contribute about 80% of the global supply as production in other countries remains flat.
