A slice of Europe hidden in the Pacific Northwest! ✨
πŸ“Œ 𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒆 π’•π’‰π’Šπ’” 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 π’šπ’π’–π’“ π‘Άπ’“π’†π’ˆπ’π’ 𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒅 π’•π’“π’Šπ’‘!

Ashland, Oregon completely surprised us. If you are driving the West Coast, you have to park the rig and spend a day exploring this gorgeous town. To make planning easy, here is our perfect one-day itinerary:

β›² The Famous Water: Stop by the main plaza to taste the Lithia mineral water, piped in since 1927. (Warning: it has a very strong sulfur tasteβ€”Alex’s reaction was priceless! πŸ˜…)

🍨 The Sweet Treat: Look for the pink door at Mix Bakeshop on Main Street. They serve the absolute best ice cream to fuel your afternoon walk. The best partβ€”it is open the whole day long.

🌳 The Green Oasis: Right next to the downtown area is Lithia Park. It is massive, full of shady trails, and completely free to explore or just enjoy reading a book.

🍽️ The European Dinner: Grab a table at one of outdoor restaurant terraces along the Ashland Creek promenade for a meal with true European flair.

🎭 The Grand Finale: You cannot visit without catching a play at the famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Try to book a show at the Allen Elizabethan Theatre for a magical open-air experience under the stars.

POV: You're a seagull looking for the best spot on the sand. πŸ¦…

Lincoln City offered the perfect stretch of coastline to lay back and watch the waves roll in. We claimed our little patch of sand among the massive piles of washed-up driftwood and just enjoyed the endless ocean views.

Fun fact: Lincoln City is famous for its "Finders Keepers" tradition. Locals hide beautiful, hand-blown glass floats all along the beach and driftwood piles. If you spot one while you are beachcombing, it is yours to keep!

Stepping straight into the 19th century! πŸ•°οΈ This is Barkerville, the final stop on our Cariboo Gold Rush trail, and it completely blew us away. It is the largest living history museum in western North America, but it feels so much more alive than just a museum.

From checking out the massive Cornish Waterwheel to walking through one of the first and largest Chinatowns in North America, seeing this town in action finally showed us what the gold rush was all about.

We became students again at the Chinese school (Teacher Joe taught us how to use an abacus and write on traditional rice paper!), grabbed fresh treats at a fully functioning bakery, and ended the day laughing at a historic theatre show exactly like the tired miners used to do back then.

The biggest surprise? Spotting a Swiss flag right in the middle of the Canadian goldfields at the photo studio of Swiss immigrant L.A. Blanc. A perfect little piece of home! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡­

πŸ“ Cape Kiwanda, Oregon

Sometimes you just have to let the landscape speak for itself. We took the DJI Avata 360 out to weave between the sandstone cliffs and sea stacks, and this flight gave us a completely new perspective on the coastline.

πŸ“ Cape Kiwanda, Oregon

When you first step onto this massive sand dune, you might actually think you took a wrong turn and ended up in the middle of a desert.
The climb up the Cape Kiwanda dune is definitely a workoutβ€”especially when the soft hot sand is sliding out from under your bare feet with every step! But pushing through to the top is absolutely worth the effort. Standing on the edge of those towering sandstone cliffs, watching paragliders catch the coastal breeze with the Pacific Ocean stretching out to the horizon, is easily one of the most spectacular and contrasting landscapes we have experienced here.
