Fall Leaves

"The thought of raking or blowing and then bagging leaves in the fall may stir up mixed feelings for you. The crisp air tinged with warm light frames the joyful tradition of jumping into a pile of leaves with your kids. But remembering the hard work you put into making that pile, remaking that pile and then bagging that pile may raise your blood pressure a bit."

A Powder Road Trip Through British Columbia

"The next morning, we packed up our gear and started the two-hour rive east on the Trans Canada Highway towards Golden, BC, where we would spend the next three days in the remote backcountry skiing with Chatter Creek Cat skiing. To get to the lodge you need to fly in by helicopter."

Over the past 40 years, I’ve made the pilgrimage north to British Columbia to ski its legendary powder. Last season was no different. I crossed the border headed to Revelstoke, BC — the mecca of powder skiing. I met up with some friends from New York on our first stop of our powder skiing advent...

Trees and Disposable Paper Goods

"In Kootenai County, Idaho, where I live, there are at least six community and non-profit gardens, some independent and some associated with food banks and community kitchens. I was saddened by the recent announcement that one of those kitchens would be closing and the property would be developed for housing."

All About the View

The view was the easy part. “We saw it, fell in love, and made an offer right then,” said Deanna Dunn, who with her husband Jeff, took possession of a lot in the hills above Post Falls. “There was a pad, and that was about it.” Based on the view alone, it was the perfect

A Night Under the Stars

"A cool summer night breeze nipped at us as we stood on Arid Peak Lookout's catwalk. We continued to watch while pulling our jackets tighter and readying our cameras. Then we saw it and were frozen in awe at the ribbons of green and pink aurora that danced in the night sky to the north of us over Idaho's St. Joe Mountains."
