How to qualify your day:

You can change the whole course of your day by qualifying how you want it to go when you first wake up in the morning. Energy follows thoughts. Another word for this is setting intentions. Our intentions are powerful and the Universe loves to respond to them.
For example, this morning I thought through the various tasks and activities of my day from start to finish. Then I reflected upon how I would like it to be. What matters most to me is that my day will be easy, comfortable and enjoyable. That works for me! So I set the intention that all my interactions with people and all the things I participate in today will feel that way. And sometimes I spend some time visualizing a certain activity ahead of time going the way I would like it to. This puts me in a good state of mind and the day flows much better.

It takes some time, and practice but if you do this you will see an improvement in your day and begin to see that you have more power to be the deliberate creator of your life!

Staying in the energy of gratitude

I am hearing all the time about the importance of being grateful and I have been asking myself why. As I delve deeper into the subject, this is what I feel gratitude does for me:
It is the single most important quality that can change my energy around and thus change my life around.

When I am in a bad mood and feel like life is hard, it is generally because I am looking at, or re-living all the things that are wrong. And there can be plenty of those, and the more you look and talk about them, the list just grows and grows. I can work myself into a deep funk that feels almost impossible to get out of. One thing I know for sure helps, is to start thinking about the things that I am thankful for. This may sound simplistic, but it sure works for me. I look around for something that I might be taking for granted and sometimes it might take some real mental effort. It might be something like, "it's raining and cloudy again, BUT I am so glad I have a roof over my head and a warm house." Then I reach for another thought and another and just keep going into gradually I talk myself out of the funk.

"What you focus upon expands" is another way of saying the same thing.

I may have to do this several times a day and several days in a row but as I build up the momentum of better-feeling thoughts I can change the direction of my energy and life just starts getting better and better!

We all love it when someone appreciates us and notices the good things we do. We naturally feel like doing more and giving more. Likewise, The Universe ( or source or God according to your beliefs) loves to be noticed and appreciated and cannot without from pouring out goodness to us as we build a momentum of feelings of Gratitude!

How to change a belief.

The first step is to notice the belief you have that doesn't feel good to you and you want to change. Identify it. This may feel uncomfortable or painful, but it is okay to feel and those feelings provide the motivation to change it. Then take some time figuring out what it is you would prefer to believe. Even if it seems far-fetched or impossible, you can use your mind to identify what it is you would like to believe. One way to do this is to pick the opposite of what your negative belief is.

Once you have chosen what new belief you would like, identify how this would make you feel.

For example: "I feel dumb, but I would like to feel smart. If I felt smart I would feel such relief. I would feel capable and like I could take on new things. I would feel comfortable and confident. It would feel so good."

Spend a few moments imagining how you would feel if you felt smart. Now you have something to work with.

Write up a statement in your own words that describes your new belief. Such as " I am a very intelligent person and each day I recognize that more and more."

Throughout the day, notice the times you do something well and give yourself credit. Notice the times you are capable. Remember the things you have done in the past where you felt smart. Refuse to criticize or put yourself down. Try one new thing that you have been afraid to try because you didn't feel smart enough. Make it small and doable so you can succeed at it. Set yourself up for success. Talk to yourself and repeat your new statement often. Support yourself and remember the Universe completely supports you in your new belief. Step by step and day by day you will form a new belief!

"Resonance" is one of my favorites words. It brings no sense of fear, control or obligation. Instead it brings to mind phrases like, harmony, feeling good, striking a chord with, being on the same wave length, appreciating and enjoying. We all resonate with different things. What you resonate with may be totally different than what I resonate with. That is the beauty of it. Noticing what we resonate with and living from that place is very freeing.

As you go through your day, notice what things you are doing because you feel you should, you think someone else thinks you should, or you feel obligated to do. I'm not talking about daily responsibilities that keep life going. But there is a large area of life where we can choose to do things because we feel like it, because it feels pleasant to us and resonates with us. If we feel stuck in a rut, choosing to do something that simply resonates with us can help us move into a better feeling place. And then choosing to again and again until we have a real momentum going in that direction. After all, we all want to feel good and the Universe supports us in this one hundred percent!

I am a fan of Louise Hay. She didn't even begin her career as a writer and founder of Hay House Publishing until her forties. At age sixty she began painting and became a fabulous painter and she took up ballroom dancing in her eighties. Here is what she has to say about aging:

" Think about what you would like to do with the next portion of your life. Don't think limitations or why you can't do something. Allow your mind to go in new directions. When you are clear in your mind about what you really want, and know that you deserve it, the Universe will find avenues for new things to come to you, probably in ways you would not expect."

I so agree with her! At any age we can re-invent ourselves and our lives if we want to. We have power in what we choose to believe and think, as well as what we eat and put in our bodies and how we take care of them. (These are only two of many ways we can influence our health and aging.)

The Universe is always supporting us in our desires for health and happiness.

Taking one small step coming from a place of clarity about your honest desires and in alignment with God or source (according to your beliefs) is much more effective than many hurried and scattered actions, fueled by feeling overwhelmed, confused, frustrated or angry, or from trying to gain approval or acceptance from others. In the words of Rumi:

"When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety. If I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me. There is a great secret here for anyone who wants to grasp it. "🙂

Sometimes lately when I watch the news and other sources it seems like the world is just plain chaotic and I can fall into the rut of feeling powerless to change anything. Then I remind myself that regardless of what is going on around me, I have the power to create my own life. The important thing is to get clear on what I want and to focus on it instead of what is going on outside of me.
If you can relate to this, here is an exercise that might be helpful. It is called "Clarity and Contrast " and I learned it from Christy Whitman founder of the QSCA.

On a blank piece of paper draw a line down the middle from top to bottom. On the left side of the page write the word "Contrast." On the right side of the page write the word "Clarity." Next, pick a subject that is troubling you or you would like to change. Under the word " Contrast," write some words and phrases describing the problem or what it is you don't like or want. Get it out of your head and onto the paper. After you have identified that clearly, move over to the right side of the paper and under the word "Clarity," write what it is you would like. What is the opposite of the problem you described? How would you like it to be if you could have your way? And most importantly, how would you like to feel? Once you have clearly identified and described what you would like and how you would like to feel, take a moment and thank the Universe ahead of time for bringing your desires to you. Relax and imagine the feeling of having your desire fulfilled. (I always ask for "this or something better" knowing the answer may come in a different and better way than I could even think of.)
Then, from this place of feeling anticipation, let go and go about your day. Pay attention to any ideas you have of actions to take. This is the time to be determined and just "Do it!" Even the smallest action will pay off if you are in alignment with your true desires and intentions. Remember, the Universe is always on your side and supporting you to have your desires! (Repeat this exercise as often as needed)
