It's almost Father's Day, and if you're like most men, you might measure yourself by what you are able to provide financially.
It's the stuff you can point to, gadgets, the home and the bills handled on time, so it's the stuff that feels like the whole job.
But there's a bigger one sitting underneath all of it, and almost nobody ever tells you about it.
Long before a kid can understand a single word you say, he's already reading you.
Your tone, and whether the house feels steady when you're in it.
He soaks all of that up before he can even talk, the way he learned your face before he learned your name.
That's where he gets his first idea of what a man is, not from a talk you sit him down for. He takes it all in, the good things you do and the mistakes. Taking ownership of the mistakes is critical, and often overlooked.
So you were never just keeping the lights on. You were handing him the template he'll use for his own life.
Be the man you want your sons to be, and the protector of your daughter the Lord wants you to be.
