Veterans Service Organization Partners,

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is going to announce it will readjudicate claims for Veterans who served in the offshore waters of the Republic of Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

This review is part of the Veterans Benefits Administration’s implementation of the November 5, 2020, U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California decision to readjudicate previously denied claims as applied in Nehmer vs. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Veterans who were previously denied service connection for an herbicide related presumptive condition due to lack of in-country Vietnam service will automatically have their claims readjudicated.

Readjudication means VA will review the evidence of record and provide replacement decisions in the cases of Veterans who were previously denied service connection for one or more herbicide related conditions on the basis that military service was not performed on the landmass of the Republic of Vietnam or on its inland waterways. This review will also apply to eligible survivors of deceased Vietnam era Veterans.

Veterans who have a condition caused by herbicide exposure during military service can file a claim for VA disability compensation at this website.

VA is dedicated to ensuring that all Veterans receive the benefits they have earned and ensures it has the resources in place to meet the needs of the Veteran community. Thank you for your continued support of VA and our joint partnerships.

Thank you,

Under Secretary for Benefits
Thomas J. Murphy
Acting
Veterans Benefits Administration
Department of Veterans Affairs

Subject: Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) Town Hall

Good Afternoon,

To ALCON,

Building Healthy Military Communities (BHMC) is partnering with Uniformed Services University (USU), supported by Military OneSource to offer a valuable Town Hall on a trending harmful issue around dietary supplement.

"Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) is a DoD-wide initiative designed to educate Military Service Members and retirees, their family members, leaders, healthcare providers, and DoD civilians about dietary supplements so they can make informed choices. Many Military Service Members use dietary supplements often to build muscle, lose weight, increase energy, or enhance sexual performance, yet they are unaware of the potential health risks and consequences. Therefore, based on the best evidence-based information about dietary supplements, OPSS endeavors to provide education on how to choose safe dietary supplements for Military Service Members, their families, healthcare providers, and leaders to achieve human performance optimization."

The Agenda:

1.) Military One Source (MOS) Spotlight: Ms. Blenda Gann who is our amazing Military One Source (MOS) representative here in MS, she will brief on this subject and what MOS has to offer. She is cc'd on this email for her contact information.

2.) Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS): Ms. Andrea Lindsey from Uniformed Service University will be our guest speaker; she is cc'd on this email if you would like her to brief your branch of service/unit/etc.

This event will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 beginning at 2:00 PM CST. To begin registration see the attached flyer and the OPSS flyer for more details. You will receive the meeting link prior to the meeting.

Please share this information so that other Service Members and families can be equipped with this valuable information. Should you have further questions please connect with me at your earliest convenience.

Leadership support is needed to spread the word on supplement safety and to help prevent adverse side effects.

Thank you,

V/r
