Amazing stuff and we are covering them both in the post season.
Pretty incredible what’s happening in Wallace County this season. One of the smaller counties in Kansas, with fewer than 1,500 people, has two football programs dominating at the same time: the Sharon Springs–Wallace County Wildcats and the Weskan Coyotes. Both teams won their Regional matchups in convincing fashion last week, with Sharon Springs taking down Argonia-Attica 52–6 and Weskan rolling past Moscow 62–12.
Sharon Springs (8-Man DII) remains undefeated at 9–0. The Wildcats have allowed just 54 total points all season with five shutouts, behind a disciplined defense and a balanced, physical offense led by senior QB Kemper Benisch and juniors Braylon Rains and Gage Cox.
Just down the road, Weskan (6-Man) is having another huge year at 8–1, averaging 56 points per game, one of the top scoring offenses in Kansas 6-Man. Led by standout Karsyn Wright, the Coyotes continue to build on a proud tradition after becoming the first sanctioned 6-Man state champions.
Together, these two small-town programs have put up wild combined numbers:
* 17–1 overall record
* 918 points scored / 145 allowed
* Average score: 51–8
* +773 point differential
Pretty amazing to see two teams from one rural county producing like this, especially when many of these kids grew up playing youth sports together before splitting into different programs. Just another reminder that big things can come from the smallest places.
