Unfortunately, we’ll be skipping the Hodgins-Berardo Arena (for now), as we haven’t yet been able to locate the historical photos needed to properly tell its story.

In the meantime, please enjoy these videos and photos of the arena—we’re looking forward to sharing its full story soon 🙏

In this episode of Hockey Barn Tours, we explore the Historic Eagle River Sports Arena simply known as The Dome

From its bold construction in 1933 and its revolutionary lamella roof design, to the community members who signed their names, invested their time, and showed up when the building’s future was on the line.

But this isn’t just a story about the past.
Today, The Dome is still alive — hosting youth hockey, community events, and standing proudly as both a historic landmark and a working rink.

Its survival is proof that when people care enough, places don’t just survive… they endure.

This is the story of The Dome.

And the people who never stopped answering the call.

Built in 1933, the Eagle River Sports Arena — known simply as The Dome — became the first indoor hockey arena in the State of Wisconsin.

What immediately draws your attention is the roof. A rare wooden lamella truss dome, its interlocking timber design spans the ice without interior supports — an ambitious and forward-thinking feat of engineering for its time.

It became the foundation of Wisconsin hockey.

The Hockey Capital of the State.

Home of the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame.

A building that has watched generations take the ice beneath the same roof.

This is The Dome.
