During a recent visit to Christie’s in New York, our team stepped into a boardroom that featured an Elaine de Kooning painting—currently offered through private sale.

That moment carried extra weight for us.

The Citadelle is proud to hold a work by Elaine de Kooning in our own collection.

This piece was also included in a book on abstract expressionist women written by Dr. Amy Von Lintel and Bonnie Roos of WTAMU Art History called 'Three Women Artists: Expanding Abstract Expressionism in the American West'.

As we continue building partnerships and engaging in national conversations about art and curation, we remain deeply committed to preserving and sharing work of this caliber with our region and beyond.

Our thanks to Christie’s for their time, and to Dr. Von Lintel for continuing to advance research that connects collections like ours with wider audiences.

🖼 On view now in Canadian, Texas.
