Todd Snider, originally hailing from the Portland, Oregon, area, arrived in Texas as a teen and was captured by the troubadour life while at a Jerry Jeff Walker show at venerable Gruene Hall in 1986.

After moving to Nashville—or, more properly, East Nashville—around the turn of the twenty-first century, Snider garnered a loyal following from regular fans to influential industry leaders like MCA Records executive Tony Brown, iconic producer Don Was, respected artists like Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Jason Isbell. His songs have been recorded and performed by artists as diverse as Garth Brooks, Loretta Lynn, Elvis Costello, and Tom Jones.

The Krause Ranch is not the usual Hill Country landscape one might expect—it has bottomless holes, dinosaur tracks, high limestone river cliffs where golden eagles nest, and occasional visits by pumas and black bears. Historian Thad Sitton paints a detailed portrait of the 1,670-acre property, its human history, its natural history, and Gary Krause—the man who spent several decades clearing cedar to bring grass and good water back to the land. Krause’s commitment to returning the land to its original state resulted in an ongoing partnership with the The Nature Conservancy in Texas. https://bit.ly/3M2R9yd
