Why Me?
Folcroft has NO representation on the school board currently. We pay taxes, send our children there but have no representation. It’s a classic example of Taxation without Representation. When I see the Keystone Bill every year, I question: am I and more importantly are the children getting what we’re paying for? I hear every night the successes and struggles of the district. I hear from parents of district children regularly with my partner about the challenges and failures of the district.
These are the things that have motivated me to run for the school board.
What would I bring?
Bringing my experience as an Accountant and Financial Advisor for over 20yrs, one of the first things I would do is work with the board and the leadership on a deep dive into the budget. I hear a lot of talk about spending but just like I talk to my clients, we need to know what we have, identify our priorities then make sure we can afford it. You can’t EXPECT what you don’t INSPECT. As a board member, we’re empowered with setting taxes to pay for the district. Well, I’ll be honest, we can’t keep just bleeding our residents without accountability.
There’s a lot of talks about finding grants or other funds. While there are some grants and funds that are still available, honestly, in this environment we cannot simply just believe these funds will be available. Government cuts along with increased competition for these limited funds, means we as a district have to adopt a mindset of self sufficiency and working within our means. This doesn’t mean we wouldn’t go after these funds, we’d just focus more on what we can control than what we can’t.
The other main thing I would work on with the board and administration is a review of our student achievement. What are doing well; what can we improve on; how do we empower the administration and staff to provide our children with a 21st century education.
My Ask:
I’m asking for your support to represent our boroughs to give our residents and children a voice in their future.
