Anne Lamott called them “sh*tty first drafts.” Hemingway said “the first draft of anything is garbage.” Your favorite authors don’t write perfect prose on the first attempt—they just don’t share their rough drafts. Give yourself permission to write badly at first. The goal is getting the story out, not getting it perfect. You can’t edit a blank page.
