Sand Creek football will forfeit a pair of wins after self-reporting an ineligible player.

The move comes after Sand Creek staff learned of the player’s ineligibility last Wednesday and reported the information to the Colorado High School Activities Association on Thursday. Friday morning, the Scorpions learned they would need to forfeit their Aug. 28 win against Highlands Ranch and their Sept. 11 victory against Longmont. Those games will now count as victories for Highlands Ranch and Longmont.

The Highlanders won the 2A/3A small schools race at the Coronado Classic Invite with 21 points and Lucy Alvarado, competing in her second race this year, led that charge with a second-place finish.

Excellence is the expectation at this point for Oliver Horton.

It doesn’t matter if the Coronado star is returning from an injury or it’s his first race of the season — or both in this case. Horton can thump the field of runners regardless of circumstances.

Brynlee Torres is lethal on the diamond. Just ask the string of opponents she’s bullied in and from the batter’s box this season.

This week’s Gazette Preps Peak Performer unloaded on Doherty last week and finished with a career-high six RBIs, four hits and a home run in a 26-15 victory against the Spartans on Sept. 8.

The homer gave Torres her fourth of the season — she had none as a freshman — and her four hits marked the fifth time through 12 contests the Fountain-Fort Carson sophomore had three or more hits in a game.

This year, Torres is batting .561, has 23 hits, 20 RBIs and eight doubles. In the circle, Torres has collected five wins along with 39 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings pitched.

“I worked a lot over the summer during club and preparing for high school just to find my pitch and be able to hit the ball hard,” Torres said.

A year after a scoreless draw, The Classical Academy came out on top over fellow Class 3A school Manitou Springs.

Two goals from senior Rylan Dallmann in the first half gave TCA an early lead, and despite a late goal from the Mustangs, the Titans came away with a 2-1 win Tuesday after a scoreless second half.
