Today is the birthday of composer Gustav Mahler. Tune in during the 1:00 p.m. hour featuring the lyrical and profoundly expressive fourth movement of his Symphony No. 5, known as the Adagietto. This piece, composed solely for strings and harp, stands in contrast to the more tumultuous outer movements. The Adagietto is often regarded as the emotional core of the symphony and has been interpreted as a heartfelt love letter to his wife, Alma. It remains one of Mahler's most cherished compositions.
