Repost from Verdine White 01/23/16 -
Happy Saturday my FB Peeps!! I'm loving this brisk LA weather and thanks to the weather Gods the west coast is ok....for now!! Lol And whatta cool holiday today January 23rd! Its officially National Pie Day!! Which means we get to bake, share try new recipes....and mostly eat pies!! Love apple crumb, bananna cream and blueberry!! Hmm better put on my Chef Verdine apron and get bizzzyyy!! This day was created by the American Pie Council and has sponsored the "National Pie Championships" since 1986! Can you imagine winning the Best Pie in America Award!!?? Bragging rights forever!! Anyhoo on to our Saturday feature of the day! Get ready family! We're gonna have an entire weekend of footage from my very own bass instructional video from 1992! VERDINE WHITE. RHYTHM OF THE EARTH. ADVANCED BASS TECHNIQUES! Featuring outstanding musicians, Darrell Crooks on guitar, Fred Dinkins on drums and music director Henry Soleh Brewer on keyboards. Soleh is also an administrator of the Official Earth Wind and Fire Legacy Page. The young moderator for the video was the very talented and sought after bassist, Ernest Tibbs. He has performed and toured with awesome artists including Alan Holdsworth, Phil Upchurch, Simon Phillips and is a bass instructor at Musicians Institute. Thank you and much respect to these phenomenal musicians for lending their talents to "Rhythm of the Earth!!" We were a great team and judging from the feedback, this video was a very successful training tool for up and coming bass players and musicians! My goal was to focus on performance, style and technique: ●Demonstrate how to create a unique sound with left and right hand techniques ●Develop a distinctive style and techniques that industry professionals will remember ●Improve dexterity with exercises for finger positioning, plucking and sliding ●Improvise and compose developing a well rounded vocabulary of hooks and licks ●Tips on performing, blending and band development Enjoy segment #1 family, Part 2 and 3 will follow this one tomorrow!!
