Join us in honoring Augusta Baker’s extraordinary legacy with Dr. Nicole Cooke, who as the Augusta Baker Chair at USC, continues her work of championing diverse voices in children’s literature, storytelling, and social justice. Just as Baker worked closely with illustrators like Ashley Bryan to create positive depictions of Black life, Dr. Cooke supports underrepresented voices in both literature and illustration. Through training and advocacy, they inspire future storytellers and artists to reflect the richness of diverse cultures in their work. Together, their impact continues to shape inclusive practices in the world of literature, art, and education. ✨📚

Digital Collections at UofSC

The Digital Collections Department is dedicated to the production, maintenance, delivery, and preservation of digital resources for scholars and students at the University of South Carolina, the citizens of South Carolina and the public at large. Through the use of appropriate technological standards, University Libraries endeavor to increase access to holdings in order to improve the teaching and research of the USC faculty, improve the learning and research of the USC Students, promote lifelong scholarly learning, and to increase knowledge about the development and importance of digital collections.

Digital Collections primarily serves faculty, students, and staff of the University of South Carolina. Digital faculty and staff participate and contribute to the digital library community state-wide and worldwide through project partnerships, like South Carolina Digital Library (SCDL) and Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). Our collection creation and maintenance provides worldwide access to our resources for research and historical exploration. The outcomes of our work are measured by our success in meeting the needs of our regional, national, and global audience.

Local campus stakeholders include faculty and staff members from USC, the Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, the South Caroliniana Library, South Carolina Political Collections, Moving Image Research Collections, The Music Library, and The Thomas Cooper Map Library and Government Documents department, as well as members from the Systems Department, Center for Digital Humanities, Institute for Southern Studies, and the School of Library and Information Science.
