The News/Classical Format is heard on three stations and focuses on music programs,
such as Performance Today, World Cafe, Echoes, and Music Through the Night. Regional music programs include Sonatas & Soundscapes, On The Keys, and Cola Jazz. South Carolina Public Radio Classical stations include:

Charleston: 89.3 FM (WSCI)
Columbia: 91.3 FM (WLTR)
Greenville/Spartanburg: 90.1 FM (WEPR)

South Carolina Public Radio was started in 1972 as a part of South Carolina ETV, the state’s educational television agency. At its inception, South Carolina Public Radio (then called the South Carolina Educational Radio Network and, later, ETV Radio) focused on producing national music series such as American Popular Song with Alec Wilder. It went on to produce Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz, NPR’s longest-running jazz music program, for which South Carolina Public Radio received a Peabody Award. Though McPartland passed away in 2013, the series continues to be heard in archival form nationwide. South Carolina Public Radio is funded in part by listener and corporate donations to the ETV Endowment of South Carolina.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed the state’s first flu-related death of the 2025 season — a Lowcountry resident who passed away from flu complications. Health officials urge South Carolinians to take precautions as flu activity continues to rise.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that a Lowcountry resident has died from flu-related causes. This is the first death in the state associated with the 2025 influenza season which began at the end of September.

The appointment follows the September removal of former director Howard Knapp, whom Chairman Dennis Shedd said engaged in “inappropriate conduct,” including misuse of agency funds and alleged efforts to falsify documentation.
