Dear Columbia Film Community,
We would like to address the current outbreak of the viral infection COVID-19 that is impacting our world and the film industry at large.
For many of us, these are unprecedented times. Our lives have been turned upside down in just a couple weeks, and with the world going on lockdown, many of you are thinking about what’s next?
As freelancers, filmmakers, and talent, we’ve always tried to prepare our finances to be able to weather a slow month or two, but these current times are something extraordinary.
We are seeing the job market within the film industry practically disappear in just a few weeks. Most of the bigger shoots are pushing their dates, and the smaller shoots are canceling with no return dates being set yet for the immediate future.
As many of you already know, there is a big trickle-down effect that is impacting our world economy, and it’s going to take some time for us all to recover from this. With that being said, we all need to find the positives in situations like these and work to become the next best version of ourselves.
Here are a few suggestions on what you can do on a personal and business level to find success throughout the next couple of months:
➡️ Catch up with loved ones, and make time for those who matter most.
➡️ Reflect on your business, and identify your strengths and weaknesses.
➡️ Set personal and professional goals for yourself in the near and not so distant future.
➡️ Learn new skills: find a mentor to work with, or join an online workshop.
➡️ Update your industry profiles, your reels, and your personal websites.
➡️ Stay in contact with your clients, and let them know you’re there to help during these times.
Throughout the next couple of months, we’re going to take these pieces of advice to heart.
If there is something that we can help you with in the meantime, please reach out. If you’d like to help us by suggesting ways that we can improve, we’d love to hear from you. Or, if you’d just like to say “Hi”, we’d love to catch up with you!
Keep your head up, stay positive, and we will survive this rough patch together.
Best to all,
- CFC
