Today, we celebrate Jeremy Patton's 12-year anniversary with Missouri Press. He's our advertising placement director and graphic designer, but he also wears many other hats such as directing our annual golf tournament and handling all of our technical needs at the convention. He was a designer for the Fulton Sun before joining the MPA on Aug. 1, 2013. Here's to 12 more years, Jeremy!

Congrats to Mike and Sue Scott and the staffers of the NEMOnews Media Group for being named to this prestigious group. The article reads: "Starting in 2003 with three local newspapers, NEMOnews Media Group has grown into a resilient, locally-owned network of newspapers serving seven counties across rural northeast Missouri. Bringing multiple publications back from the “brink of extinction,” their focus has been not just to preserve the papers but to transform them — with digitized operations, streamlined printing and mailing systems, updated websites and rebuilt newsrooms. Through this work, NEMOnews Media Group has endeavored to restore civic trust and strengthen democracy at the local level with innovative content that is deeply rooted in community values."

The Missouri Newspaper Hall of Fame’s ranks will grow by four when the 35th class of honorees are inducted during Missouri Press Association’s 159th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Wildwood.

Inductees for 2025 are the late Kevin Jones, past MPA president and chief operating officer of the St. Louis American; Dennis Ellsworth, former MPA board member and executive editor of the St. Joseph News-Press; Barbara Ann Horton, staff writer for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff; and Jerrilynn Voss, former owner and editor of The Unterrified Democrat in Linn.

The Missouri Newspaper Hall of Fame was established in 1991, and inductees or their families receive Pinnacle Awards in honor of the inductees’ service to the newspaper industry and their communities. Inductees’ plaques will join the permanent display of inductees in the MPA office in Columbia and in the student lounge in Lee Hills Hall at the Missouri School of Journalism.

The tradition continues!

With The Clinton County Leader back in his ownership, publisher Steve Tinnen was in St. Joseph this morning to see the first edition roll off the presses. Be sure to pick up your copy at local news racks later this week, or if you're a subscriber, keep an eye on your mailbox!

The Tinnen Family first purchased The Clinton County Leader on January 1, 1969, kicking off a 50-year tradition for the local newspaper. Steve and Sue Tinnen reacquired The Leader after its brief closure last month.

Sorry to see this happening, not only because of the loss of the facility in Missouri, but also because of the really great folks who work here. Missouri Press staff and others had a chance to tour the plant in March, when we met some of the nicest folks in the newspaper business during our walk through, and that's saying something.

Remembering the reason for America's independence day.

For our July 2 edition, our last one before the Fourth of July, we have printed on our front page the entire Declaration of Independence. The text and all spellings are taken directly from the official transcript at the U.S. National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Look for it on newsstands starting late this afternoon.
