“We know that most of our canopy loss is due to development on private property because each year the city plants many more street trees in public rights of way than we must take down due to age, storm damage, or disease. By giving away shade trees to property owners with this program, we are helping to reverse a 22 percent decline in our urban canopy over the last 18 years.”

“Obviously, we’ve had a couple of teams over the past four years we’ve felt were really strong and had a chance to get back there, but it didn’t work out for one reason or another. For this group to get back to the finals, it’s a really good accomplishment for them, but also the program to just bounce back and get back in the finals for the 10th time in 28 years.
