‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ had its long-awaited theatrical release on Friday, May 1. Director David Frankel returned to the runway to direct the film 20 years after the first movie’s release.

Despite the excitement around its release, the sequel does not live up to the bar that the first ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ movie set. The film juggles nostalgia bait, poor costuming and a lack of character growth during a very drawn-out 2-hour runtime.

Jazz guitar icon Pat Metheny’s Side-Eye III+ tour stopped in Columbia on April 16. Here’s a detailed look into how pianist Chris Fishman and drummer Joe Dyson became a part of the band and what they’ve taken away from it.

“You’ll notice by show 87 that you’re not even thinking about anything,” Fishman said. “It’s just, like, happening. It’s pretty magical.”

Mizzou Residential Life’s Healthy Community Committee staff hosted the first annual “Pose with a Purpose” fashion show at the Virginia Avenue Amphitheater on April 16. After an initial delay due to “unforeseen circumstances” in November, the event was rescheduled to the April date.

Participant Islynn Nyanyo modeled looks in the Y2K and business casual categories. She said that her inspiration for her Y2K outfit came from social media and streetwear fashion.

“I went on Pinterest, and I was like, ‘Y2K, do I want to do cute Y2K? Or, like, streetwear Y2K?’ and I picked streetwear,” Nyanyo said. “I was trying to go for, like, a 2Pac kind of vibe.”

The fourth annual Lit Crawl kicked off the 2026 Unbound Book Festival. Locations across downtown Columbia featured events that included readings of short stories, poetry memorization competitions and word games.

Cara M. Basset is an author who submitted her work for Without A Net, an event where 12 authors have to write a story not exceeding 400 words in 40 minutes based on one of two prompts.

Basset said that, despite this being her first year participating in Unbound, she already appreciates the community that it fosters.

“I’ve been to a couple of (book fairs) and they’re a lot of fun, but that’s more of, like, you go and you buy books. But this seems a lot more like, no, you go and you, like, hear authors talk about what it’s like to write. And I think that that’s so cool that we have a community that’s interested in that kind of stuff.”

Sierra Club, a national environmental organization, allows Columbia residents to participate in climate change activism through its mid-Missouri chapter. Volunteering, attending events or joining as a member are all small ways to make a significant difference regarding environmental activism in Columbia.

“Too many voters don’t think of climate change as a voting issue … They mention things like recycling and public awareness,” said Carolyn Amparan, the head executive chair of the mid-Missouri group. “And those things are good, but they’re not going to fix climate change.”
