Earlier this morning, NOAA Hurricane Hunters found on their reconnaissance mission that Erin has strengthened into a Category 4 Major Hurricane with max sustained winds of 130 MPH.

Since Erin is much stronger, it has already began a slight turn to the northwest. This turn northward becomes much sharper by Monday and Tuesday, keeping Erin away from the East Coast. While the chance of direct impacts for the Carolinas from Erin remain low, it’ll bring dangerous rip currents and high seas to Southeastern beaches.

Good morning! A weak wave of energy will slowly drift across the Carolinas, providing enough energy and support for another round of showers and storms later today. Before these fire up, we’ll have partly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the low-90s.

The afternoon won’t be a washout, but we’ll have a few showers and thunderstorms across the Midlands. The best chance at a thunderstorm capable of producing pockets of heavy rain will occur south of I-20, mainly across the Southern Midlands.
