When the original Lyman Boats in Cleveland shut down, some went the extra mile to keep their legacy alive. Adam Sublett and his dad, Nate, decided to relaunch the company and put their own modern spin on the boats. From the outside, they’re classic Lyman silhouettes and colors, but the technology is a lot more advanced. Instead of dials and gauges, the boat is controlled with a digital screen that communicates directly with the boat’s engines. 🚤

With the recent rise in AI usage, the internet is requiring more and more power to function. Data centers are responsible for powering the internet., which means that more data centers will have to be built to support a society that’s more reliant than ever on the internet. While none of our co-ops currently power any data centers in Ohio, we take time to prepare for how that could affect them. 👩‍💻

At the Ohio Expo Center & State Fairgrounds, a 15-foot Smokey Bear animatronic serves as a reminder that only YOU can prevent forest fires. 🔥 This is why he’s the perfect addition to the park, accompanying the Armintrout Fire Tower which stands tall at 60 feet, honoring the history of fire watch towers in Ohio. At their peak, 48 towers once stood in the state, but today, none of them are in use.

Born on Krypton, created in Cleveland—the city where two high schoolers started a worldwide phenomenon. 🦸‍♂️ Superman was the first comic-book hero and shaped much of what DC Comics is today, making him an iconic figure in pop culture. Lyman Boats quickly became a staple of Lake Erie after the original Lyman Boat Works was founded in 1875. 🚤 But after the company went bankrupt in the 80s, fans of the boats had to work to keep their legacy alive. Tom Korokney earned the nickname “Doc Lyman” when he purchased tools, parts, and records from the original company to continue restoration and repair work. Kenny Kreutzfeld helps customers bring their family’s old Lymans back to life, and he eventually wants to open a museum to honor their history.

Data centers, responsible for managing anything internet related, account for almost 4% of electricity usage in the Midwest. 🖥️ With the recent boom in AI, that number is expected to grow to 16% by the year 2040. What does this mean for our co-ops? While we don’t currently power any data centers in Ohio, we have the capacity to support them if needed. But this isn’t done without having to account for potential risks and adapt to ever-changing legislation.
