When Francis de Sales Brunner, a Catholic missionary priest from Switzerland, came to America in the mid-1840s, he brought with him numerous religious artifacts. One of the ten convents he established is named it Maria Stein and was made to house his relics. It just so happens the Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics is located right here in Ohio and is one of the largest collections of holy relics in the country. Check it out 👉 https://bit.ly/4ru47oV.

Todd McMullen’s dream was to buy a Ford Mustang Cobra convertible and take his family on sunset cruises, but first, he had to beat cancer. After 12 years of fighting, Todd lost his battle on October 24, 2024, but his family made sure to fulfill his dream.

This past summer, Todd’s in-laws, Dave and Julie Heuing – members of Pioneer Electric Cooperative – purchased Todd’s dream car in his honor for his wife, Sara, and two young sons to enjoy. They refer to it affectionately as “daddy’s car,” and buckle up the passenger seatbelt for Todd. Read about Todd’s life and legacy 👉 https://bit.ly/3MfKAbJ.

This time of year, more than 200 life-sized nutcrackers – including whimsical storybook heroes, cartoon characters, TV stars, historical legends, and more – transform downtown Steubenville into the Steubenville Nutcracker Village. 🎄 The nutcrackers are hand-made and take about 400 hours to design, carve, and paint, but that time is well worth the invaluable experiences Nutcracker Village give countless of visitors each holiday season. https://bit.ly/48e5Rv3 🎅🌟❄️

Most Ohio electric cooperatives offer a program to members that allows them to voluntarily round up their electric bills to the nearest whole dollar. 💰 Their spare change is put into a fund – sometimes called Operation Round Up or the Community Fund – that offers grants to local causes and individuals in need. In 2025, Ohio co-op members donated about $1.8 million to these funds, quite literally turning their small change into BIG change. ♥️

Here are the stories of those who were helped by these programs this year 👉 https://bit.ly/3KzEZfW.

As we approach the coldest months of the year, Ohio is forecasted to have plenty of electricity to meet demand, but that’s not the case for many other states. In this month’s edition of Upfront & REAL, OEC’s President and CEO, Craig Grooms, reviews a newly released power reliability report from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation and highlights how co-ops have been preparing in case of extreme weather.
