This is fxcking bu****it.
The Atlantic has an AI Watchdog project where you can search datasets used to train generative AI models, and The Boy Detective shows up 16 times in the Sleeping-Disco 9M dataset.
Sixteen songs. Unbelievable.
And yeah, before anybody says it, having something listed in a dataset does not automatically prove a track was actually used by every AI model. Fine. But let’s not pretend that makes this any less bonkers. Their music is in there. So many songs are in there.
That is the problem.
Artists and musicians already get dragged through it enough just trying to create, release music, get heard, and maybe get paid for it. Now they also have to worry about their work being fed into AI datasets without their permission, credit, or any compensation whatsoever.
The Boy Detective is a real band made up of real people making smart, funny, weird, human music.
