DEVELOPING: A significant emergency response is currently underway at the Motel 6 Columbus, GA, located at 3050 Victory Drive in Columbus.
As of approximately 8:09 p.m. Saturday, August 22, Columbus Police, fire and EMS crews, ambulances, and Animal Control are at the property. Multiple emergency vehicles remain staged around the motel while crews continue working at the scene.
Residents at the motel say the response began after a room caught fire and that a dog requiring oxygen was locked inside the room. That account comes from residents at the scene and has not yet been independently confirmed by fire officials or police.
The presence of Animal Control is consistent with an animal being involved in the response, but officials have not yet confirmed the condition of the dog, whether anyone else was inside the room, what caused the fire, or whether any injuries have been reported.
