Gizmo- 171246
Rescued
Status: Behavior+ Medical- Rescue Only- Not yet urgent

Intake Date - 7/31/2023

Source - ACO Impound.
Age - 8 years old.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Shih Tzu mix.
Weight - 10 lbs.

Bio: Gizmo is in need of rescue due to behavior. Gizmo came to us as stray and upon intake was very defensive towards any handling. He was initially lunging and snapping towards staff. Our behavior team was able to remove him a couple days after he settled in and he was still very fearful but did allow light petting on their first interaction.

On 8/05 our behavior team had him out again and noted that he likes butt scratches, happily followed another dog around, but did NOT like being picked up and did get snappy when attempting to pick up.

Due to his high level of FAS with handling, our medical team had to sedate him to complete a physical exam. Our vet wrote “Age: ~8yrs. Missing several incisors, moderate tartar, nuclear sclerosis on R elbow thickened and grade 1-2 lameness, scabbing on ventral neck (had flea collar on) otherwise NSF

Forelimb Radiographs: significant degenerative changes and remodeling at R elbow. Bilateral angular limb deformities WNL for breed” He was neutered after his physical exam.

Due to his behavior and potential bite risk, he is RESCUE ONLY. He must be pulled by a rescue and NOT a direct adoption candidate at this time. He will be up for reevaluation on 8/18.

** UPDATE ** 8/08 Due to rescue interest, we are holding Maddox.

** UPDATE ** 8/04 Maddox has started to display severe stereotypical signs of high stress in his kennel. He is circling, tail chasing, and fly biting. These behaviors are a sign that his psychological state is declining and he is no longer coping within the shelter setting. He is already on anxiolytics and is still displaying these high stress behaviors. He is now URGENT. He must be pulled by a rescue by 8/08. Due to his behavior decline, he will not receive any extensions.

Update** Maddox is currently stable however his behavior remains a concern and is not a direct adoption candidate. He remains rescue only and must be pulled by an approved rescue. Our medical staff was able to attempt an exam but he did head flip while they were listening to his lungs. Medical also reported food aggression during the exam. He will be up for reevaluation on 8/07.

**Maddox qualifies for the shelter promise training voucher. The rescue that pulls him/her will receive a voucher good for a FREE one-on-one behavior assessment and training plan.

Bio – Maddox is available for rescue only due to behavior concerns. The Wardens were called out for him running loose as a stray. He ate the treats given and was able to be leashed. Once back at teh van the kennel door closed and it spooked him. Maddox went running back towards the house and the leash came right out of the persons hand. They were able to get him to approach again with the help of treats. They grabbed the leash but when they tried to move his paw (he was stepping on it) he lunged and snapped at their hand. For safety, due to his size and behavior displayed, they utilized a control pole. He began biting at the pole and charged towards the Warden. They were able to get him to stop after deploying the mace. Back at the shelter Maddox was still showing a high level of FAS (fear/anxiety/stress) and was barking and heavily panting in his kennel.

On 7/18 a staff member went to greet Maddox in his kennel. He was friendly on approach, was barking, took treats nicely, and sat when asked. He began to lean into the kennel door for pets and neck rubs. That staff member got him out on 7/19 and said he was easy to leash and walk outside. He marked a lot outside and was more concerned about sniffing around than paying attention to the person. He happily accepted, and leaned into, pets though. When the person sat on the bench he immediately approached and leaned into them for pets. Maddox spent a little time in an office and did really well. He was able to settle and lay down but he would intermittently bite at imaginary flies. On 7/24 he was eager to get out, easy to leash, and jumped up a few times once out of his kennel but then started walking. He was friendly towards all the people he met and interacted with today. We were able to do a brief medical exam today but when they were listening to the right side of his heart/lungs and went to go to the left Maddox head flipped (but didn’t snap). He recovered quickly and approached for more pets.

He saw a calm intact medium mixed male dog on the other side of the fence and approached with a loose body and nub wags. He remained interested and non reactive. He’s been non reactive towards other dogs when walking by their kennels even if they’re reactive towards him. On 7/24 he showed positive interest towards a medium mix female. He kept sniffing her belly and privates but due to the size difference the leashes his leash was kept loose but not dropped. He coexisted well with her in the yard.

He is NOT available for direct adoption. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/310.

Cornelius 169348

Status: URGENT- Behavior-Adoptable

Intake Date - 5/09/23

Source - ACO Impound.
Age - 3 years, 2 months.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Pit mix.
Weight - 59.8 lbs.

** UPDATE ** 8/13 Cornelius has show improvement since being moved to his real life room. He has had positive meet and greets and we have not witnessed his reactivity in a real life room. He is still in need but no longer urgent at this time unless additional concerns arise.

** UPDATE** 8/08 We plan to attempt to place him into a real life room to see if that helps is kennel stress, however, if he is not safe in a real life room he will be placed back into a run. He continues to be reactive and a bite risk in a run. We are extending day by day. He is still considered URGENT. He remains available for adoption, foster, or rescue.

** UPDATE ** 8/07. Cornelius is still considered URGENT. We have extended him until 8/08.

** UPDATE ** 8/01. Cornelius is now considered URGENT. He continues to display severe barrier reactivity towards people and is a bite risk towards anyone approaching his kennel. He must be adopted or pulled by a rescue by 8/06.

**Cornelius qualifies for the shelter promise training voucher. Anyone who adopts him or the rescue that pulls him will receive a voucher good for a FREE one-on-one behavior assessment and training plan.

Bio – Cornelius is available for rescue due to intermittent poor kennel behavior. He was scared when he first arrived but after a few days staff took him out. They said he seemed housebroken, was very friendly, leaned in for petting and would swing his butt into them for butt scratches.

He was tested with medium sized female on 5/12. He was tense but sniffed her. He then jumped on the dog growling and trying to pin her down so the interaction was ended. He was tested again with a little bit smaller calm female dog on 5/13. He approached tense, piloerect, and hoovered over her so we placed a muzzle then allowed them to interact again. Cornelius was very focused on trying to get the muzzle off so we removed it. He wandered the yard and then sniffed the other dog and walked away. On 6/13 it’s noted that he had been alarm barking and charging people that were in front of his kennel. We placed a treat bucket for people to toss treats in as they walked by and started him on anxiolytics. On 6/28 he started getting more jumpy/mouthy and leash biting. Then on 7/07 he was showing forward aggression towards a staff member while he was in his kennel. He had his front legs on his kennel door and was barking, growling, baring his teeth. The person attempted to calm him by kneeling sideways, no eye contact, and tossing treats but he was unable to settle.

While out with staff on 7/19 he was calm, interactive, and playful. He is very smart and treat motivated. He already knows sit, shake, lay down, and will catch a treat when it’s tossed to him. He seems to be housebroken and he always goes potty as soon as he’s outside. He plays with toys and will bring them to you to play a little tug or to play fetch. He will also just lay with the toy and entertain himself. Cornelius got to hang out in an office for a little bit too and was calm and well behaved.

He is available for direct adoption, foster care through FCDS, and for a rescue to pull. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/24.

Jerico-162325
Went to a foster through the shelter home.
Status: URGENT- Behavior- Medical- Adoptable
Deadline 5pm Sunday, July 30.

Intake Date - 3/29/23

Source - Return.
Age - 6 years, 11 months.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Large Mix.
Weight - 74.5 lbs.

*UPDATE * Jerico will be extended until 8/04. He will be available to participate in our sleepover event on 8/04.

*UPDATE* Jerico will be extended until 7/31 at 7pm. He is still in urgent need of adoption or rescue.

Bio – Jerico is available for urgent rescue due to behavior concerns. He was originally brought to the shelter by a Warden as a stray with no background information on 8/9/22. He went to a foster to adopt home on 9/12/22 and was returned on 9/27/22 because Jerico needs more care than they could provide. He went to another foster home on 1/08/23 and they adopted on 3/14. Jerico was returned on 3/29 because he was tearing up the floor/carpet. They said he was housebroken, left free run of the home when alone, showed signs of separation anxiety, and was friendly. On 7/22 staff was feeding Jerico and when they opened the door and bent down to place the bowl down Jerico growled lunged and hit their face. His teeth did not make contact with the persons face but they did have saliva on their face. He does have a history of intermittent severe reactivity in his kennel but he hasn’t had any incidents like this before.

A staff person that he typically reactive towards went to get him out earlier on 7/22 and Jerico was not reactive and easy to leash. Outside he was goofy and interactive. He was easy to put back in his kennel too. On 7/23 another staff member noted that he has a history of reactivity in his kennel but generally does very well out of the kennel. Jerico spent some time in an office and he was again his normal goofy self.

He does have allergies and will need to take Apoquel daily for the rest of his life.

He was tested with a female Pit mix on 10/20/22. He was giving big play bows towards her as soon as he was in the introduction pen. In the yard he initiated play pretty quickly. He played appropriately and was respectful on her and liked to play chase. He was introduced to two male dogs on 11/21/22 and he was tense through the barrier but had moments of being loose and showing positive interest. The intact male dog was brought into the same yard and Jerico was uncomfortable, tense, sniffed the other dog and quickly escalated. He was tested again with a female Pit mix on 5/14. He gave a big play bow towards the other dog then wandered away. He mostly kept to himself but gave tail wags when the other dog approached him. He has consistently done better with female dog than male dogs.

He is available for direct adoption, for foster care through FCDS, and for a rescue to pull. He needs to be adopted or have rescue commitment prior to 5 pm on 7/30

Ted Lasso 197790

Status: SAFE

Intake Date - 6/29/23

Source - Return.
Age - 5 years, 1 months.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - German Shepherd.
Weight - 106 lbs.

**Ted Lasso qualifies for the shelter promise training voucher. Anyone who adopts him or the rescue that pulls him will receive a voucher good for a FREE one-on-one behavior assessment and training plan.

**UPDATE** URGENT 7/24 Ted Lasso is now up for urgent rescue due to continued behavior issues while he’s in his room. On 7/23 staff went to feed Ted and were unable to do so because Ted was guarding the door and not allowing staff to enter/open to place the bowl in his room. A staff member that he is very comfortable with was able to come and place his food in his room. Ted will need to be adopted or have rescue commitment prior to 5 pm on 7/30.

Bio – Ted Lasso is available for rescue due to behavior concerns. He was originally brought to the shelter by a Warden on 5/31. He was adopted on 6/22 and returned on 6/29 due to not having time to care for him. He is housebroken, was confined to a room or left free run when alone, lived with a female dog (required slow intros because he would become jumpy and over excited), and showed signs of separation anxiety. He was treated for an ear infection, skin infection, an upper respiratory infection, and diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia.

He has had several concerning incidents recently. On 7/21 one staff member was in his room giving him attention and another staff member opened the door to give him more water. Ted lunged at the person giving water, barking, and aggressively snapping at them. They jumped back and tried to shut the door but Ted’s head was already out. Ted continued to try to get to the staff member but the staff member inside the room was able to pull him back by his collar. Ted was immediately friendly with the person inside the kennel and calmed down. On 7/22 in the morning when staff was trying to place a bowl in his room Ted lunged, snapped, and growled at them.

He was tested with a female medium mix on 6/03. He was tensed, sniffed the other dog, then wandered the yard. The other dog tried to initiate play and Ted pawed at her and growled. There was no further escalation but the other dog backed off right away.

Ted is a member of our run club. He also loves playing in the pool & playing fetch. He knows sit & shake. Ted is very treat motivated and eager to please.

He is available for direct adoption and for a rescue to pull. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/28.

Benji-169543

Status: Length of stay- Behavior- Adoptable- Not yet urgent

Intake Date - 5/17/23

Source - ACO Impound.
Age - 4 years, 7 months.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Pit mix.
Weight - 63 lbs.

Bio – Benji is available for rescue due to an extended stay at the shelter. He started showing a high level of FAS (fear/anxiety/stress) in his kennel pretty quickly. On 5/22 he was growling, held his tail straight in the air and stiff, and alarm barked, and showed his teeth. Later that day another staff member was able to get him out and reported better kennel behavior. Outside Benji kept jumping on the person for attention and allowed handling all over. He was treat motivated, knows sit, and seems to be housebroken. Benji was being worked with by staff and Volunteers prior to going to medical staff for an exam. On 6/05 medical staff attempted an exam. He was flighty and when he was touched near the back end he turned and snapped at their hand. They placed a muzzle so they could complete the exam and Benji continued to growl and try to remove the muzzle. Benji has shown forward aggression towards children while he’s in his kennel. Two children ( 5 yr and 7 yr) walked by his kennel calmly and Benji lunged at the kennel hitting it and began to growl and bark as they walked by.

He was tested with a female Pit mix on 5/22. He approached with a loose body, tail wags, and sniffed her. He was focused on mounting her and had to be pulled away because the other dog lost her tolerance for Benji’s behaviors. He didn’t show aggression but showed excessive mounting.

He is available for direct adoption and for a rescue to pull. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/31.

Bio – Marshall is available for rescue due to an extended stay at the shelter. He was originally here at end of 12/2021 but he was reclaimed. He was back on 3/29/22. We were able to make contact with the adopted and they said they had rehomed him due to aggression towards resident dogs. They mentioned that Marshall had a history of resource guarding food from other dogs. He was adopted on 5/21/22 and came back to the shelter as a stray on 3/14/23. We were unable to get in contact with the adopter so he was placed back up for adoption. On 3/15 staff said he was easy to get out of the kennel and was very strong on leash. Marshall was treat motivated, knows sit, and seems to be housebroken. He got to hang out in an office for a little bit on 6/12. He entertained himself with toys, loved treats, and seemed to know speak in addition to sit.

He was tested with a female Pit mix on 3/17. He approached with a loose body and wagging tail. He greeted appropriately, didn’t play much, and remained loose throughout the interaction. He was tested again with a female Pit mix on 6/13. He was loose and initiating play while in the introduction pen. Once in the yard he gave big bouncy play bows and played very well.

Jade-168758

Status: Length of stay- Behavior- Adoptable (NO CATS)- Not yet urgent

Intake Date -4/16/23

Source - Stray.
Age - 1 years, 8 months.
S*x - Spayed Female.
Breed - Pit mix.
Weight - 58 lbs.

Bio – Jade is available for rescue due to an extended stay at the shelter. The person that found her said they saw her killing a cat. When staff tried to approach the finder to get Jade she was lunging, charging, and alarm barking at staff. On 4/20 she was still showing a high level of FAS (fear/anxiety/stress). She was easier to get out on 4/24. Jade was still timid but sought a lot of attention from her handler. She was nervous meeting new people while out for a walk but sought attention from several people while off leash in a fenced in area. Jade was doing much better in her kennel by 5/21 and was observed being loose and wiggly in her kennel. On 7/09 Jade got some office time. She played with toys and they did a little training. Multiple staff members stopped at the door to say hi and Jade sought attention from them. On the way back to her kennel she saw a child from a distance. The child was swinging a toy in the air and Jade became a little growly but she was easy to redirect. It’s noted on 7/14 that Jade had been observed showing signs of stranger danger when she sees/walks by some people in the hallway.

She was tested with a male Pit mix on 4/24. She was piloerect with her tail held high. She postured over him a few times upon greeting but walked away on her own. When the other dog approached to sniff her backside she became very tense. They coexisted well and Jade eventually started to try to play with him.

She is available for direct adoption and for a rescue to pull. She will be up for reevaluation on 7/31.

Intake Date - 4/03/23

Source - ACO Impound.
Age - 3 years, 3 months.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Pit mix.
Weight - 64.2 lbs.

Bio – Dale is available for rescue due to his extended stay at the shelter.

He had started to show FAS (fear/anxiety/stress) in the shelter pretty quickly. On 4/05 he was pacing, kennel surfing, and panting when approached in the kennel. He was very fast out but once outside we found him to be treat motivated and he knows sit and down. He was strong on the leash and became very amped when trying to return him to his kennel (grabbed the leash and wouldn't let go). They were able to distract him with a treat and get the leash back. Staff got him out on 6/13 and said he was still fast out and was doing some leash biting. In an office he self entertained with toys and didn’t have any problems going back into his kennel. We had to bathe him on 6/16 and Dale was “a very good boy!” He did think the towel was a toy when drying off but they were able to trade him for a toy which he held while getting dried off. He has had some random office time and when people come into the office Dale tends to jump up and become mouthy.

He was tested with another dog on 4/05. Dale approached tense, postured over teh other dog, muzzled punched them, then gave a play bow. Dale did this a couple times and growled the last time. He was tested again on 4/07 with a female Boxer mix. Dale was muzzled and was very focused on removing the muzzle so it was taken off and he did ok. Dale is going to be too much dog for most other dogs but may be able to play more appropriately once he has an appropriate energy outlet.

He is available for direct adoption and for a rescue to pull. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/31.

Status: Length of stay- Behavior- Adoptable- Not yet urgent

Intake Date - 3/28/23

Source - Return.
Age - 2 years, 6 months.
S*x - Spayed Female.
Breed - Pit mix.
Weight - 47.4 lbs.

Bio – Sydney is available for rescue due to an extended stay at the shelter. She was originally brought to the shelter as a stray with no background information on 1/27/23. She was fearful in her kennel initially but once out did well and sought attention. She was adopted on 3/18 and returned on 3/28 because she kept chasing the cats in an aggressive manner. They crated her when left alone and they said she was housebroken. She went to a foster to adopt home on 5/14 and returned on 5/16 due to her high energy levels and destructive tendencies. Sydney did very well with the children in the home (3yr and 9yr old), was reactive towards men, and would keep getting into the trash. When left in a screened in porch for 5 minutes alone Sydney destroyed the screen all around the porch.

It’s noted on 6/23 that someone was having trouble removing the leash from Sydney after a walk. She had done well with them besides when snapping at them when trying to remove the leash. Staff had to assist with removing the leash.

She was tested with a male Hound mix on 1/31. Sydney was immediately tense, tail high and flagged, and had a tight closed mouth. Due to her behavior the dogs were not allowed to interact. Walking by other dog going back to her kennel she remained tense. She was tested with a male Husky mix on 2/02. She was initially pretty tense and greeted nose to nose. Sydney growled so we placed a muzzle on. She remained tense but allowed the other dog to approach and sniff. She gave appropriate corrections the few times he tried to mount her and never escalated. The muzzle was removed and she approached to sniff the other dog a few more times.

She is available for direct adoption and for a rescue to pull. She will be up for reevaluation on 7/31.

Intake Date - 4/26/23

Source - ACO Impound.
Age - 1 years, 3 months.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Large Mix.
Weight - 62.6 lbs.

Bio – Hyde is available for rescue due to his extended length of stay at the shelter. He was picked up as a stray with no background information. On 5/08 it’s noted that he had started alarm barking, had dilated pupils, and was charging the kennel. We added a treat bucket and started him on anxiolytics. When medical staff tried to get him from his kennel for a booster vaccine on 7/07 Hyde grabbed the slip lead and ripped it apart and proceeded to alarm bark with teeth showing. He pulls hard when on leash and had episodes of passing out so he now has to be walked with a harness only.

He was tested with another dog on 4/29. He was tense and piloerect at the fence but loosened up a little once in the same yard. Hyde was able to coexist with the other dog but didn’t play. He does have barrier reactivity towards other dogs when other dogs pass by his kennel.

He is available for direct adoption, for foster care through FCDS, and for a rescue to pull. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/31.

Tyson-143297

Status: Behavior- Length of stay- Adoptable - Not yet urgent

Intake Date - 1/10/23

Source - ACO Impound.
Age - 7 years, 11 months.
S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Pit mix.
Weight - 75.4 lbs.

Bio – Tyson is available for rescue due to an extended length of stay at the shelter. He was originally brought to the shelter as a stray with no back ground information on 7/24/2020. He was adopted on 8/16/2020 but was brought back to the shelter on 1/10/23. We were unable to make contact with the owner so he was placed back up for adoption. He went on a overnight sleepover on 5/6-5/7 and they said:

It took no time at all for Tyson to settle in the house. He was the perfect choice to spend a lazy evening with watching movies.
He is housebroken. He had full access to the house and was respectful.
He showed no interest in toys.
He is forward with attention and very affectionate. He wants to lay right next to you or on you if allowed.
He followed me around and stayed close. Though in the yard he ran around and chased squirrels/birds. Once the chase was over, he came in when called.
He travels well in the car.
He tolerated all handling when given a bath.
He knows sits.
He is strong on leash and will pull if he sees something of interest. I harness him and that helps with pulling. He also can be redirected by saying ‘let’s go.’
He is very alert, he perked up when he heard noises outside the house. He barked when he heard a knock at the door. I did keep him in a room when a service person came to work on the house. Tyson barked the entire time (the person was there approx. half hour).
Tyson is anxious (barking/whiney/panting) at the shelter and can be pushy for treats. At my house ate all his food in one setting but he had no interest in a treat filled Kong.
Tyson went to a sleepover with another person on 5/20. They said he was friendly, quiet, active, housebroken, liked car rides, and pulled a lot on walks when he sees other animals.

He was tested with a female Pit mix on 1/24/23 and he was reactive at the fence but able to settle quickly. Once in the yard he immediately tried to mount the other dog. The handlers were able to interrupt him with the shake can and he started giving play bows. We tried to introduce him to a smaller male Pit mix and started with a parallel walk. Tyson would go from loose to tense and fixated and try to jump on the other dog. When in a fenced area together Tyson would stiffen and try to mount the other dog. Tyson did not respond to the other dog yelping or avoiding him. On 5/15 we tried him with another female Pit mix but he kept trying to mount her. When the other dog got away he did some play bows towards her but mostly followed her around trying to mount with quick bursts of play in between.

He is available for direct adoption, foster care through FCDS, and for a rescue to pull. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/28.

Tatum-168891

Status: Length of stay- Adoptable - Not yet urgent

Intake Date - 4/21/23

Source - ACO Impound.

S*x - Neutered Male.
Breed - Pit mix.
Weight - 65 lbs.

Bio – Tatum is available for rescue due to his extended length of stay at the shelter. He started out a little nervous but then outside blossomed to a big goofball. Medical staff had started treating a corneal ulcer in his left eye on 6/26 so he had an ecollar on. He was in a kennel and kept getting the ecollar off so was moved to a real life room on 6/28. He does show intermittent poor behavior (snarl, alarm bark, and jump on the kennel door) while he’s in his room too. He went on an overnight sleepover on 7/01 to a home with only one female adult and no other animals. They described him as friendly, affectionate, gentle, respectful, and fearful. They said he may benefit from having another playful and tolerant dog to help take cues from and gain confidence from. He exhibited higher FAS (fear/anxiety/stress) away from the shelter than he currently does in the shelter. Tatum was fearful of the novel environment and experiences. In the car he laid down or sat but hyper-salivated during the two car rides resulting in a wet cone and chest. In the apartment he had some excessive panting and hyper-salivating too. He will need a patient owner that realizes that Tatum will need time to adjust to change. Tatum seemed to be completely housebroken.

Tatum was shown to potential adopters on 7/11. While in the get acquainted room he was amped, pulled a lot, flighty, and kept trying to climb the room door. When putting him back in his room he tried to force his way back out of the kennel.

He was tested with a female Pit mix on 4/23 and initially just ran around the room. After a few minutes he began to play with the other dog and giving big play bows. After playing for a few he did get a little overstimulated and rough but settled easily. On 5/24 he was out with another female Pit mix and he was really playful, wrestling, and playing chase. He had an intro with a potential adopters 12 yr old male Pit mix. Tatum immediately initiated play and was respectful of the other dog not wanting to play. After a little bit Tatum became frustrated and became grabby with the other dog.

He is available for direct adoption, foster care through FCDS, and for a rescue to pull. He will be up for reevaluation on 7/28.
