Winter is citrus season, meaning our production floor is bursting with the tangy sweet aroma of oranges! 🍊☀️

Citrus trees thrive in regions with mild winters and plenty of sunshine, and because they require slightly cooler temperatures for their flavor to fully develop, the winter months are the ideal time to buy! The mild-climate growing regions of California's Central Valley and Florida are bursting with Vitamin C immune-boosting fruits!

Carrots weren't originally orange!

Before the 1600s, carrots came out of the ground purple, yellow, red, white, and even black! Then, in the 16th and 17th centuries, Dutch farmers began selectively breeding yellow carrots to produce a bright orange variety! 🥕

There are 2 working theories as to why, the first being a subtle tribute to William of Orange, the leader of the Dutch revolt against Spain, part of the family known as the House of Orange-Nassau. 👑

Then there is the fact that orange carrots were sweeter, less bitter, and more uniform in shape than the other varieties, making them easier to profit off of! 🤔

🧡 Did you know all bell peppers come from the same plant? Green = youngest, orange = middle, red = sweetest! Orange bell peppers are naturally sweet, packed with vitamin C (even more than an orange!), and full of beta-carotene for healthy eyes and skin. 🫑

On the outside of each FRESHEALTH box, you can spot our new kid-friendly mascots designed to make fresh produce fun and approachable!

After a creative naming campaign with our followers, "Ms. Spears", "Mango Jo", "Kip Kiwi", and "Jicama Jones" can officially be found on our social media, our boxes, but their impact is more than just visual!

We intentionally crafted each mascot to bring a unique perspective to food education, whether it's food safety, farm-to-table, energy and wellness, or curiosity about where food comes from. By giving these characters distinct roles, we're helping teachers connect food education lessons to imaginative storylines that spark curiosity and reinforce nutrition knowledge in the classroom.

By pairing healthy habits with child-centered storytelling that inspires the next generation, FRESHEALTH continues to stand out in school nutrition.
