Have you checked out today's Google Doodle?

It's by 15-year-old Akilah Johnson, who recently won (selected from 100,000 submissions), Google's "Doodle 4 Google" contest, making her the first African American and first student from D.C. to win the national competition!

When asked what inspired her piece, "My Afrocentric Life", which includes names like Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X and more, Johnson said: โ€œOne of my teachers from Roots, Baba Camera, is really what made me look at art in a different way. As I grew older, I had realized that the Black people that came before us has made us into what we are today, so of course I had to include them in some way.โ€

As the winner, Johnson is set to be awarded a $30,000 college scholarship, plus her school will receive a $50,000 Google for Education Grant.

Congratulations, Akilah! And thank you for celebrating both the past and present in your artwork.
