“What my friends have shown me a lot in the last couple months is how to care for people when they're at their worst, so that they can eventually go back to being their best. And that's, I think, important for a physician, too, is you might see people at their worst, whether you're an orthopedic surgeon, and someone's coming in with a shattered femur, which is what happened to me, or you're a cardiologist and someone's coming in with heart failure, or you’re a hepatologist and someone's coming in with cirrhosis. You're seeing people at their absolute worst, and to get people to their best, it's not just about their medical care, it's about caring for them as a person, caring for the whole person, being a holistic doctor, being a humanistic doctor.”
