Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated - Gamma Tau Omega Chapter Welcome to the page of Gamma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®️

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated began as a vision of nine college students on the campus of Howard University. The sorority has grown into a union of thousands of college-trained women who are bound by a powerful mystique, a real moving factor in the lives of students in more than four hundred institutions of higher learning; it is one of the most solvent corporations in the world today.

Gamma Tau Omega Chapter was chartered on March 22, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia. The organization of this chapter was the fulfillment of the dreams and hard work of twelve Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority members. Since its founding over 78 years ago, Gamma Tau Omega's mission has been to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind.”

Repost.

As we continue Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on Caregivers, those who give endlessly to others, often without pause.

Together with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® International Health & Wellness Committee, we encourage rest and emotional support for caregivers. Because caring for others starts with caring for yourself.🩷💚

Take time to rest, recharge, and reach out. You deserve support, too.

Happy Mother’s Day from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®!

On this special day, we honor the love, strength, and unwavering devotion that mothers and mother figures provide. A mother loves unconditionally, nurtures and guides endlessly, protects selflessly, and uplifts humbly—often without recognition, yet always with boundless grace.

To every mother, grandmother, “other mother,” and caregiver—we celebrate you today and thank you for the immeasurable impact you make in the lives of your families.

We also hold close in our hearts those whose mothers are no longer with us physically. May their memories continue to bring comfort and light.

Happy Mother’s Day!🩷💚💐

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Under our “Empower Our Families” program initiative, we’re standing together to prioritize wellness in every household.

This month, we’re using our collective power to shine a light on mental health, break the silence, and encourage open conversations around emotional well-being—especially when it comes to depression, anxiety, and the impact of unresolved trauma.

Let’s uplift one another, share resources, and remind our communities that it’s okay not to be okay.

Healing starts with awareness, and sisterhood makes us stronger.🩷💚

Gamma Tau Omega members had a blast this past weekend celebrating the sorority’s Charter Day (March 22nd) with a fun community service project.

In observance of the 82 years since the chapter has been established, members threw a “baby shower” to collect items to donate to the Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital. The goal was to collect 82 items…do you think GTO met the goal? Sound off in the comments!
