Within the past hour, the power at the Muscogee County Jail went out and has been restored. During the outage, multiple additional MCSO patrol units, personnel, and supervisors were dispatched and responded to the facility. We would like to thank all MCSO employees for their quick response and professionalism during this time. Multiple headcounts were conducted, and all inmates were accounted for at all times. The backup generators are tested monthly by the CCG Facilities Maintenance team; however, the backup generators failed for unknown reasons. CCG Facilities Maintenance is on-site, and we thank them for their swift response as well.

ARE BUSINESSES UPTOWN DISCRIMINATING AGAINST THE YOUTH IN COLUMBUS?

Columbus failed to invest in real programs, real spaces, and real opportunities for young people? Instead of creating places where youth can gather, learn, and grow, are we prioritizing projects that benefit select groups while leaving kids with nowhere to go?

And now the answer is a curfew?

Is that prevention… or is that criminalization?

A curfew doesn’t create opportunities. It doesn’t build mentorship. It doesn’t provide activities. Some would argue it simply creates more opportunities to police young people who already have limited options.

With hundreds of arrests already happening Uptown, is more enforcement the solution? Or are we protecting an image while overlooking the needs of the city’s youth?

What’s your take Columbus? Let’s talk about it 👇

Would this work for Muscogee County for certain crimes?

🚨JAIL CHANGES: The Fulton County Jail will stop accepting most people arrested on misdemeanor charges starting July 1.

Sheriff Patrick Labat announced exceptions will only be made for domestic violence, sexual assault, or aggravated circumstances.

The policy change follows a formal legal opinion requested to address severe jail overcrowding and worsening facility conditions.
