Commissioned by the Blue Ridge Ringers, Hendersonville, North Carolina in celebration of their 30th anniversary, "Appalachian Delight" incorporates the folks songs Shady Grove and Barbara Allen. Arranger Karen L. Buckwalter creatively presents both tunes with lively rhythms and infectious energy.

"All night, all day, angels watching over me, my Lord!" This arrangement of the African American spiritual is creatively set by Karen L. Buckwalter with optional parts for Bb clarinet and percussion. Contrasting moods and creative harmonies bring the melody to life in new ways.

Looking ahead to Easter? We welcome arranger Stephen Wurst to the Beckenhorst handbell catalog with this festive setting of "The Day of Resurrection" incorporating motifs from "Christ the Lord is Risen Today". The arrangement is driven by malleted bass notes and includes a contrasting middle section in 6/8 time. This work is perfect for Easter morning for the intermediate handbell ensemble looking for a challenge.

The music of beloved Beckenhorst composer Karen Buckwalter has been in handbell folders for decades. Next Tuesday Karen will be interviewed along with handbell composer Nick Hanson in a new webinar series from Handbell Musicians of America

Composer Conversations are 75-minute online sessions with two guest speakers in a moderated discussion. On November 18, hear from composers Karen Buckwalter and Nick Hanson , who will discuss a variety of topics, including their journey from the start of a piece to its publication, and their artistic motivation when starting a new composition. They will also share their experiences with how to approach publishers, and offer insight into the process once a piece is ​going to be published. There will be Q&A time with attendees.
