In April, the Trump administration released a Forest Service budget proposal asking to terminate forest and range land research entirely with plans to offload research onto universities and the private sector. The closures are part of a plan that moves the USFS headquarters from Washington, D.C. to Salt Lake City, Utah, in an effort to “streamline” the agency.

The U.S. Forest Service recently announced plans to close dozens of research stations, including one in Ohio. The move has local researchers worried.

Ohio state Rep. Gary Click is the architect of the state's ban on gender-affirming surgeries and hormone treatments for minors. He's backed a range of bills, from less-controversial ones like requiring schools to allow excused absences for religious reasons to hotly debated ones, like restricting abortion and requiring K-12 schools to let students leave during the day for religious study.

The bill says it would permit the teaching of the positive impact of Judeo-Christian values in U.S. history. Opponents say it offers a skewed view of history.

Tim Becker, a retired deputy police chief, claims that Richard Strauss sexually abused him at the OSU student center in the mid-1980s when he sought treatment for a rash that he developed from cycling. Todd Schroeck, a former Columbus firefighter, said he was abused by Strauss during a body-fat examination connected to wrestling. Schroeck said he was 17 at the time.

Tim Becker and Todd Schroeck said in a news release that they were inspired to share their stories after retired Columbus Division of Fire Chief Jeffrey Happ said earlier this month that he is a victim of abuse by Strauss.

Brian Michael Wilson, who cried from time to time as he listened to what others said before he was sentenced, told the court that no words can change or fix what happened that day. "And for that I'm sorry," Wilson said. "The only thing I can do is try to help heal all the hurt that I've caused. If I could trade my life for Deputy Sherrer's I would, but I can't."

Brian Michael Wilson was facing the death penalty until he pleaded guilty earlier this month to aggravated murder and other charges in the death of Deputy Daniel Sherrer.
