Willie Dixon was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi and is one of the most influential songwriters of American music. He was a bassist, singer, producer, arranger, poet, and former boxer. Dixon was a central force behind the sound of Chicago blues and a pivotal figure at Chess Records during the 1950s and 1960s.
He wrote some of the most influential blues songs such as “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “Spoonful,” “Little Red Rooster,” and “I Just Want to Make Love to You.” His music shaped generations of artists, from Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf to Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and Cream.
