Community members and business leaders gathered for a Colville Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at the Statesman-Examiner in downtown Colville on Thursday, May 1 to mark the one-year anniversary of the newspaper returning to local ownership. “Over the course of the last year we have seen such an outpouring of support and appreciation from the community as we re-establish the newspaper,” said owner/publisher Gabriel Cruden. “In our work, we are guided by a dedication to unbiased reporting of news, sports and information that is local, timely, and relevant to our region, and to providing a high-quality vehicle for our advertisers – whom we deeply appreciate – to reach readers. The newspaper is also a place to celebrate the wins and milestones, to be entertained, to learn, and to preserve and remember our history. It’s a great responsibility and an honor to be a part of this work.”
In conjunction with the one-year anniversary, the Statesman-Examiner launched a new page to reflect the updates and changes that have been made for the newspaper. In addition, a new website is slated for August of this year. “Readers in our region remain fully invested in print, and so that’s where we have focused our efforts,” Cruden said. “However, we also need to be doing a good job in the online space, and so that will be coming next.
